Song Lyrics That Are Important To You

Because they keep me grounded, these lyrics from "6 Underground" by Sneaker Pimps:

"Don't think 'cos I understand, I care...
Don't think 'cos I'm talking, we're friends..."

I have three slips on my bulleton board that help my soul when times are troubled.

Forever trust in who we are
Know nothing else matters
Metallica

The hardest part of ending is starting again
Linkin Park

and this one that always make me cry for missing Babygirl

I've talked to friends
Talked to myself
Talked to god
I prayed like hell
But i still miss you
I tried sober I tried drinkin'
I've been strong and I've been weak
But I still miss you.
I've done everything move on like I'm supposed to
I'd give anything for one more minute with you
I still miss you
I still miss you baby

I never knew til you were gone
How many pages you were on
It never ends I keep turning
And line after line and you are there again
I don't know how to let you go
You are so deep down in my soul
I feel helpless so hopeless
Its a door that never closes
No I don't know how to do this
Keith Anderson

Not sure the actual lyrics are the important part, but the concept of the song. Most people haven't heard it before. it's just a song. But how I understand the song personally makes it very powerful whenever I hear it. My understanding most likely isn't the group's purpose when writing it....but it always makes me think whenever I hear it....not for everyone though....

Life During Wartime
Talking Heads

...

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco,
This ain't no fooling around
This ain't no Mudd Club, or C. B. G. B.,
I ain't got time for that now

Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit?
Heard about Pittsburgh, P. A.?
You oughta know not to stand by the window
Somebody see you up there

I got some groceries, some peanut butter,
To last a couple of days
But I ain't got no speakers, ain't got no headphones,
Ain't got no records to play

That song reminds me of college a lot and a club we used to go to then.

I really related to this TH song when my children were babies:

Talking Heads ~ Stay Up Late

Mommy had. A little baby.
There he is. Fast asleep.
He's just. A little plaything.
Why not. Wake him up?
Cute. Cute. Little baby.
Little pee pee. Little toes.
Now he's comin' to me.
Crawl across. The kitchen floor.

Baby, baby, please let me hold him
I want to make him stay up all night
Sister, sister, he's just a plaything
We want to make him stay up all night
Yeah we do

See him drink. From a bottle.
See him eat. From a plate.
Cute. Cute. As a button.
Don't you want to make him. Stay up late.
And we're having fun. With no money.
Little smile. On his face.
Don't cha' love. The little baby.
Don't you want to make him. Stay up late.

That's a good one. :) I remember those years, too.

If you're reminiscing about college years and dance clubs, here you go:

Burning Down the House
Talking Heads

...Here's your ticket pack your bag: time for jumpin' overboard
Transportation is here
Close enough but not too far,
Maybe you know where you are
Fightin' fire with fire

All wet hey you might need a raincoat
Shakedown dreams walking in broad daylight
Three hun-dred six-ty five de-grees
Burning down the house...

Yeah, that was a great one too . . . and Girlfriend Is Better. I loved that one especially too.

It's funny - my little boy - who makes me think of the Stay Up All night Song - is now 25 and getting married this fall himself.

As we get older and stop making sense
You won't find her waiting long
Stop making sense, stop making sense...stop making sense, making sense
I got a girlfriend that's better than that
And nothing is better that this

I loved that song!

And this one:

Train in Vain
The Clash

...All the times
When we were close
I'll remember these things the most
I see all my dreams come tumbling down
I can't be happy without you around

So all alone I keep the wolves at bay
And there is only one thing that I can say

Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way...

I'm not familiar with that one, but will look for it. Sounds sad.

You've got me wondering - Should I Stay or Should I go Now ;)

Nice to see and chat with you again

Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go, there will be trouble
And if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know

Feeling Good by Nina Simone

Birds flyin' high, you know how I feel
Sun in the sky, you know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by, you know how I feel
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me.
Yeah, it's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me, ooooooooh...
And I'm feelin' good.

Fish in the sea, you know how I feel
River runnin' free, you know how I feel
Blossom on the tree, you know how I feel
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me,
And I'm feelin' good

Dragonfly out in the sun, you know what I mean, don't you know,
Butterflies all havin' fun, you know what I mean.
Sleep in peace when day is done: that's what I mean,
And this old world is a new world and a bold world for me...

Stars when you shine, you know how I feel
Scent of the pine, you know how I feel
Yeah, freedom is mine, and I know how I feel..
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me

And I'm feelin'... good.

I have been inspired by this song since I was an even PerkierPerk. It has to be her version, though.

The fields have grown over now
Years since they've seen a plow
There's nothing time didn't touch
Is it really her or the loss of my innocence
~i've been missing so much

"Important" is relative to what's going on at the moment. This one made me cry last week:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdOptEJk0K8

Especially this part:

You never thought you'd be alone
This far down the line
And I know what's been on your mind
You're afraid it's all been wasted time

But at the end there's hope:

So you can get on with your search, baby
And I can get on with mine
And maybe someday we will find
That it wasn't really wasted time

I loved that song!

I yeah - I remember that song well - never paid attention to the lyrics though.

Aaaw, that must have been very poignant for you :(

"Mr. Nixon -- I ain't a-fixin'
To speak Spanish on a plane or polish off the Liberty Bell.
I like to wear my hair long - now can their be anything wrong
When you've already accused me twice -- of Looking like Jesus Christ"

A remnant of some very contentious times that do not bear repeating.

Blue Sky ~Emily West

So your conscience finally hit you
And you’re feeling guilty
And you’re wishing I was there
So you wanna say you’re sorry
Well, please forgive me if I’m too gone to care
You can take back your goodbyes
Wipe off those sad eyes
‘Cause I’ve got some tears of my own

The Weather man says it’s gonna rain tonight
The kind of storm where the basement floods and you lose the lights
Should have thought of that before
‘Cause I’m not your blue sky anymore

So you heard the pitter-patter of a lost heart beating
And you learned what it was for
So you made a list of shoulders that you’d be needing
Well mine aren’t yours anymore
Come on show me your temper
Be the man I remember
So I won’t forget what you’ve done

The weather man says it’s gonna rain tonight
The kind of storm where the basement floods and you lose the lights
Should have thought of that before
‘Cause I’m not your blue sky anymore

The weather man says it’s gonna rain tonight
The kind of storm where the basement floods and you lose the lights
Should have thought of that before
‘Cause I’m not your blue sky

Don’t wanna be that blue sky
I’m not your blue sky anymore

"The Sea Refuses No River" was written by Pete Townshend.

The Sea Refuses No River by Pete Townshend.

I remember being richer than a king
The minutes of the day were golden
I recall that when the joint passed 'round
My body felt a little colder

But now I'm like a sewer channel
Running lime and scag
Let me get at the master panel
Let me at my stack

The sea refuses no river
And right now
This river's banks are blown

The sea refuses no river
Whether stinking and rank
Or red from the tank

Whether pure as a spring
There's no damn thing stops the poem
The sea refuses no river
And this river is homeward flowing

I have seen a trace of strain
In other's eyes, not spoken
I must admit that I enjoyed their pain
But this time it's me that's broken

I demand for you and His
This must be the time
When we decide what freedom is
Turn water into wine

For the sea refuses no river
We're polluted now
But in our hearts still clean

The sea refuses no river
We tried not to age
But time had it's rage
We're washed over the stones

From babies into clones of the mean
The sea won't refuse this muddy river
Won't deny the sulfurous stream

There was a fool in a dressing robe
Riding out the twilight hour
Lonely and cold in an empty home
Trying to assess his power

But now he's like a stream in flood
Swollen by the storm
He doesn't care if he sheds his blood
Let him be reborn

The sea refuses no river
Remember that
When the beggar buys a round

The sea refuses no river
And rain fills the gutters
No time for stutters

This is our chance
To sing and to dance and to clown
The sea refuses no river
And rivers were sprung to drown

The sea refuses no river
No pecking code
Respected for the damned

The sea refuses no river
Whether starving and ill
Or strung on some pill
Just 'cos you own the land
There's no unique hand plugs the dam

The sea refuses no river
And the river is where I am
The river is where I am

Honestly over you
Honestly over you
One lie short of true
Honestly over you

Lookin' for some hope
Polished off the whiskey tonight
You turned a man to stone
For lookin' at you straight in the eyes

So I'll drive away with all my things
Though I've a faint belief in everything

I wished your love away
I wished your love away

Honestly over you
Honestly over you
And I'll tell the world
Honestly over you

I wished your love away

Words that bring the tear - David Buskin

These conversations we have in the dark
they rattle in the empty in my soul
you are my salvation
you have struck a spark
Now I'm following a trail I thought was cold.

...

and if you and I go wandering
down the days imagining
we will find the things that we hold dear

like the shadows on the snow
like the light this time of year
like the birds that never go
like the words that bring the tear

All calendars pass, days die off
And hope cannot last
But if love was like stone, then yours was mine
Through to my bones
But how can we give back to those
With whom we can't live
When will the flame break
And spare the good people it takes
