Opinions on ribbon for binding.

I'm curious to hear opinions from those who have tried using ribbon for binding, particularly silk ribbon, or any other ribbon preferences you might have.

It doesn't matter to me if you've bound someone with ribbon, or been bound. Opinions and criticisms are welcome from all angles.

Not a great idea. It slips under pressure and knots can be damn near impossible to untie. Also, it's thin so it would feel more like it was cutting than laying on the skin (especially if it slips tighter).

If you're just going to do some gentle teasing and use it more for decoration I don't see a problem. Just don't use it for tying limbs to objects or in situations where the bound person is going to struggle and pull the ribbon tighter.

Ribbon looks pretty, but isn't very practical. I'd use it as more of a symbol. Tie the wrists loosely and make the bound person hold them in place. So many games...

I'd like some further impressions, but so far these comments are pretty much compatible with my experience. It's good for symbolic, or artistic work, or some light applications, but not practical for anything more...vigorous.

I recently posted a story called, oddly enough, "Ribbon" here at dear old Lit. In it, the protagonists are long-time distance lovers who are meeting for the first time. He has her strip and then wraps gold holiday wrapping ribbon around her arms behind her back. There is no knot, just yards of ribbon wrapped around her somewhat loosely from wrists to above the elbows. It's largely symbolic but I liked the idea of wrapping her like a present to be savored for the hours leading up to when the present is opened.

We have a ribbon in use. Its silk satin. And its prettiness belies its harshness. I'd hate for it to be knotted poorly, knots in ribbon can be very, very hard to release. And ribbon tightens cruelly under weight or struggle. Of course, by experience of things to be secured my is significantly less than many people's. I am never purely bound, always secured. Being bound by ribbon, arm to arm, wrist to wrist, and not then to something might be more sensible , as the ribbon would have less torsion on it

Now there's an interesting angle, although I'm not sure I want to risk staples on bedsheets, there might be some applications. That would make for a nice tidy bow on my girls ass.

No, not staples-- just the remover, to help you pull the tight knots apart.

Would be okay when you had time, but keep those safety scissors handy for emergencies!

The one time I've used ribbon, I tried to undo a knot. I resorted to scissors and resolved to use scissors if I ever use ribbon again.

I'm definitely on board with keeping them handy

I would be loath to use ribbon because of its tendency to bunch up into very harsh twine. Quick release knots and safety scissors would be a must.
