I'm trying to make some birthday invitations for my kiddo's party in a few weeks. It's going to be a police-themed party, and I'm having trouble finding FREE printable invitations. Ideally, I'd like to put at least 2 invitations per 8.5 x 11" page. I don't want to spend more than copying/printing on this because we have to invite all 16 kids in his class and only a few of them are likely to come to the party. And I'm sure as hell not going to hand-write out those 16 invitations again this year!

I'm doing evites for the friends we have contact info for (but I don't have any contact info for most of my son's classmates).

Any ideas for me?

I did this several years ago using WordArt in MS Word. If I recall it had all the fonts and background designs I needed. I printed them on some textured linen paper and they turned out really well.

I've gotten printed paper from Office Max.. often with colored pictures of baseball bats or cartoon characters.. and fed them through my printer like regular paper. You can get matching envelopes. The whole project was usually well under $5 because you can pay by the sheet and by envelopes individually.

Regardless the invitation, I hope the party is great!

If you have a Mac, Pages has several card templates that you just play around with. And you can download more for free. With Pages, I found that it was simple and very user-friendly, and it took me no more than 35 minutes to do all I needed to. I also think - though I'm not sure, as I haven't worked with it in years - that MS has a similar programme?

Also, you could buy Avery card stock, go to their free templates, create an account (free), pick one and fill in the blanks and print.

Have fun and happy birthday to the little man :rose:

OMG, I've been working on this all damn day! I tried to do it in Word, and it's a mess. I can't figure out how to cut the page horizontally in Portrait orientation so I can create 2 invitations per page. I had an invitation all set to format/print 2 per page, but when I tried to upload it to FedExOffice to print (PTA members get a discount there), it got fucked up.

I'm thinking I should just do this in GIMP so I can easily set the page as I want it and replicate images.

Sorry, ladies, I forgot to thank you for your suggestions in the midst of my frustration! :rose:

OK, I finally figured it out in Word. I did download a blank 2/page Avery template (thank you, Breezy! ), which really helped. I don't know why I couldn't get my table to lay out like that earlier today; admittedly, I've never really been able to "connect" with Word 2010, and I've also let my Office skills get rusty in general.

So, here's the [redacted, of course] final product, which I will send/take to FedEx Office to get my discounted 37-cent color copies (hey, saving money is a turn-on!) and cut them in half, provided they still have the big papercutters like Kinko's used to. Did I do OK? Too policey for 4-7 year olds?

Oh my God! That turned out great! That's outstanding!

So, umm, I've got this party coming up....

Thanks, LC! :rose:

Unfortunately, it's still not showing up correctly when i upload it to FedEx Office (the background police lights image turns into about 20 background tiles, which makes it too busy/hard to read  ) so I'll have to take it in on a drive to see if it actually prints correctly. I would do it on our printer, but we just got a new one that connects via wifi and is slower than slow.

Does anyone have any inexpensive police decoration or party favor ideas? I thought about doing little ziploc bags of mini donuts/donut holes with a custom label (which should be infinitely easier to create!) and red & blue star balloons, but that's as far as I've gotten. Pinterest has some cool ideas, but I refuse to create an account and expose myself to privacy/security threats just to look at those pics.

The invites look great!

Have you checked out Spaceshipandlaserbeams for ideas? It's a blog about all sorts of themed parties. It's a bit Pinterest-y, but it might inspire a few ideas! Here is one dedicated to police themes.

I'd also probably throw in some sheriff badges, detective badges, maybe a police graduation certificate?

hahahaha... Cop Corn.. I love it

(we've always done water bottle covers. they're easy to do at home and the kids can take home what they don't finish)

The Cop Corn is a great idea, especially since we have a number of [adult, at least] guests who are gluten-free.

I also liked the Adopt a Police Dog idea, although I'll have to see how that could work with our actual number of guests, time frame and budget.
