Waking sleeping dragons...

Hitler played the same game, to expose the Allies as cowards, which they were. Note they leave Israel alone, cuz Israel don't play the cowardly lion game..

Islamic terrorists leave Israel alone?

White phosphorus into an ISIS command center.

At some point they have a tent or a humvee with a radio in it.

If you have seen the pictures of the town recently retaken from IS, it had been bombed like WW2 Dresden, yet IS retreated in good order and are only 8 km away.

21st Century warfare isn't like WW2, nor even like Vietnam, although Vietnam is a closer parallel - the US and its Allies don't know who are part of IS, and who are civilians or those fighting IS.

Very, very true.

So let them form a state. Then unleash nukes and white phosphorus and whatever other massive destructive force on them.

Japan can't sneeze in international waters without a constitutional amendment, much less seek revenge half a world away.

That leaves Jordan.

I'd like to see ISIS form common ground with the Chechnyan rebels and try to poke Putin's Russia with a stick. Partly because it might distract him from Ukraine, and partly because I don't imagine the Red Army would pussyfoot around with a bunch of mediaeval throw-backs. I knew someone who served in Chechyna, and the Russian attitude then as in WWII was - whatever it takes to get the job done, and screw human rights and international condemnation.

They won't, of course. They are far too canny for that.
