What's the point of having an alt, if everybody knows who you are?

lots of times, people decide that this alt belongs to this person, and really it's complete heresy. people decide whom they don't like and state that those people have alts. on the general board, i wouldn't be surprised if people create alts that attack themselves, just to garner sympathy. anyone can create an alt, and unless you are actively looking at the IP addresses there is no way of knowing whose alt belongs to whom. lots of times newbies are labeled as alts of known posters in order to describe their online persona.

some people here have admitted to having entire alt armies. these people are high maintenance, and feel the need to role play their way through life. they enjoy creating and engaging in drama as a personal past time. in my opinion they are best left completely ignored.

I take great pride in not needing/using alts to express my point of view. I've gotten a great deal of flak for some of the comments I've expressed over the years here, I have a documented history of not needing to hide behind alts.

Now, "someone" is creating alts to bash query (conincidentally giving him the attention he seems to so desperately crave), and query is in full-fledged "victim mode".

An "alt" is an alternate identity on a forum. You could be both "john7771" and "mary7771" if you like.

Most are done for fun or because it represents a different facet of yourself that you prefer to compartmentalize. Those, I tend to enjoy, especially the ones that display fun humor like Duranman (I assume but don't know) and Stewart Pidd (Who is obviously an alt.)

Some are created to troll. To either use in attack, or to support yourself, like:
