Veterans and PTSD

DSM 5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Volume 5(which is used by all psychiatrists in this country to diagnose and treat mental disorders) lists PTSM under the Traumatic and Stressor Related Disorders. So you say that all the psychiatrists that wrote DSM 5 and all that use it are completely wrong and you are right. I think that you are the loser here.

DSM 2 listed gay as a mental disorder. Its all determined by popular vote and politics. DSM 4 terminated diagnoses insurance companies and Medicaid wont pay for tho the criteria exist. In DSM 3 PMS was a mental disorder.

You'd be surprised at how many MDs are clueless when it comes to diagnoses. They exist to sell meds and make plenty of money from their sales.

At the hospital and clinic I worked for I never saw one bonafide PTSD patient, and many claimed to have it. What I saw were addicts and substance abusers who'd exhausted their wives and parents and friends, and lied about military service.

The real measure or test for PTSD is overall life processes like work history, academic success, marriage durability, criminal behavior, addictions and substance abuse, and economic stability.

From what I've read 'PTSD' candidates generally came from dysfunctional families where child abuse and alcoholism and poverty existed prior to military service. Another interesting study found that there's no significant correlation between PTSD and extensive or egregious combat experiences. And vets with PTSD claims present with substance abuse problems and low income. Even Red Cross Girls. Absurd.

I'm not aware of this particular organization, but I'm aware of one similar to it.

Paw and Stripes is an organization that provides service dogs to vets at little to no cost. And the fact that they source their animals from shelters/rescue is even better. As their motto goes: Vet saves the dog, dog saves the Vet. I became aware of it while watching a docuseries on A&E called Dogs of War. I admit to wiping away tears while watching several episodes.

This is definitely an organization to which I'll be donating.

I've always wondered if in the minds of many people the concept of free speech means disrespect and indecency. Yes, people have the right be asses; it doesn't make it right (like being honest means being rude).

There are many reasons to be disappointed, even angry with the V.A. right now — the unforgivably long wait times, the erratic quality of care, the reports of administrators’ falsifying records to cover up those shortcomings. My own disappointment is that after waiting three months, after completing endless forms, I was offered an overhyped therapy built on the premise that the best way to escape the aftereffects of hell was to go through hell again.

I'll just say that my Gramps is a WWII vet who absolutely refuses to go to the local VA because the service/care is so bad. Even though he's on an extremely limited income, he pays out of pocket for private insurance to supplement what Medicare doesn't cover. Without opening up a can of worms, if our government can't provide quality care for our veterans - a much smaller demographic of the whole - it makes me all the more leery of claims to provide quality care for the rest of the nation.
