Add some gratuitous sex?

In a story I'm developing, two characters have a lengthy discussion. One storms off; the other gets drunk. Morning after, they talk again. Sex ensues shortly after.

From the time that the last fuck happens to the time the next fuck happens in the story is about 4500 words. Roughly two full Literotica pages.

Too long? I could figure out how to insert some gratuitous sex. I could also take a chainsaw and do some editing. Or I could leave it as is.

Thoughts?

As I understood it, a Lit page is about 3000 words, so your interval may be about right.

3700 words per page

Yeah... I just did a word count on one of my published stories, and the word count was 3700 words per Lit page. So in my case, there would be about a 1.2 literotica page gap between sex scenes... or maybe slightly longer. Wondering if that's too big a gap. Gonna lose the audience?

Oh, Lord. If it flows with the story, put it in. If it damages the story, leave it out. You're not being paid for this. If you're writing stories here just to get votes and ratings from a highly flawed voting system, maybe you should consider taking up golf as being more productive and beneficial to you.

This is an erotica site, so gratuitous sex is usually welcomed and rewarded.

Unless Lit has radically changed the parameters, the average Lit page is 3,767 words as averaged over the first page of 100 multi-page stories. +/- about 500 words. The Story you checked is actually below the lower end of the spread. The actual computation is based on a character count of around 14Kb-15Kb modified by various orphan controls so prediction by word count is somewhat unreliable.

Gratuitous sex, Gratuitous Violence, or gratuitous anything is more likely to harm your story than help it. Editing "with a chainsaw" is more likely to help your story than harm it.

Whichever you choose, just remember that an erotic story is first and foremost a Story, and the better you tell the story, the better reader response will be; Do what works best for the Story and don't worry about some non-existent formula for success.

Pilot has a valid point. Fore!

My current story goes 5700 words without any sex, so I wouldn't worry about it. As long as the story is solid, the fans will be fine :D

Like. WH is the Lit stat king.

Nothing is more untrue.

Gratuitous anything is a people magnet.

Words per Lit page depends on your writing style. Some people use longer words than others, and will have fewer before the next page break. Also, longer paragraphs will pack more words onto a page. And of course more dialogue will make your writing less dense as well. So you can't estimate YOUR personal WPP (words per page) based on averages of other people.

(As my old pappy always told me, "Son, never use a bigger word when a diminutive one will do.")

As for gratuitous sex, it depends on your story goal and your intended audience. If you are trying to attract strokers looking for something to stroke to, obviously more sex is always better. If you are trying to attract serious story fans, then story trumps all. Just as in words per page, one size does NOT fit all.

I never use gratuitous sex in my stories and always let it have a purpose in it. It depends on what kind of story you're writing, that sex might not happen in an entire chapter and readers won't be disappointed, as long as the story can carry itself without it.

Gratuitous sex is in our faces every day and we become somewhat immune to it, so I try to make sex something important to the story and bring a deeper sense back to it.

Agree with this. A couple of times I was about to note to this thread that it starts off revealing the answer by using the word "gratuitous." But, in fact, if you just want a lot of reads and votes (one way or the other) on Literotica, gratuitous sex, indeed, is the way to go. (I go that way occasionally myself with my stories.)

Let the sex happen when it best fits into the story.
If at all. Might be in the first line, or the last line, or every line, or no lines. That depends on the story. Even a no-visible-sex story can be erotic -- let the fucking happen off-stage, as it were, so long as the story involves the reader emotionally. But some stories want to involve the reader viscerally, right in the guts and gonads. A stroker can probably never contain too much gratuitous sex -- in which case, it's necessary, not gratuitous. Fuck away, kids.

I just posted a story where the first sex doesn't even start until the tail end of Lit Page 8. The story is doing just fine.

Let the story dictate the sex - don't force it.
