Why do Loving wives stories bring out the trolls?

Fortunately I have a thick skin but I do not understand why "Loving Wives" stories bring out the trolls. the comments are usually anonymous and tell me to kill myself, insult my manhood, and cast aspersions on my sexuality. What is it about these stories that summons the cockroaches? My stories in other categories get mostly praise or letters of polite criticism. I was wondering if other authors had the same experience.

The Loving Wives crowd is a conglomeration of about three camps.

1. those who love loving wives cheating/open marriage type stories
2. those who hate stories of the type in #1
3. those who think all stories on Lit are real

I once wrote a series of LW stories. One for each camp. I had a great laugh at all the comments made on each. Once I established that now matter what you write about there are those that will Hate, I turned off comments and voting on my LW stories. I don't need any of the anon's to validate my writing.

I have this little side business where I rent shark proof suits to newbie Loving Wives writers. :D

Welcome to the madhouse.

In terms of just trolls I suspect it's

1-people who see authors/readers of that category to be weak, and so are going for what they think to be easy targets
2-people with nothing better to do than pretend they have the right to defign what's right and wrong for everyone else (overlaping heavily with your #3)
3-people who have a personal experience that they can't let go of (though that level of hate usually implies a certain level of hypocracy too)
4-people that are really into it but can't admit it and so lash out (but since there isn't as much public openness about polyamory as homosexuality, have to dig deeper into the internet to find targets)

So my guess; the most pathetic troll-type, sterotypical televangelists, hubands who's wife cheated on them before they could cheat on her, and people who can't admit to themselves what they like.

Btw zeb: you forgot those of us that end up there from preg-related tag searches, but then we're usually quiet since we know we're not the target audience anyway and kinda feel like guests in someone's home. :p

That's because camp 2 always wants one of the following to happen to the "cheating" wife.

1. she get pregnant
2. she dies from AIDS
3. she gets kicked to the curb
4. the husband beats her then kicks her to the curb
5. any combination of the above.

Long ago I decided that it wasn't worth getting worked up about. The more vial the comments, the better the story was. Once I realized that, I turned off comments and voting on the LW stuff.

ETA: I was always of the opinion that they loved my LW stores. Otherwise why would anyone take the time to read or read enough to know what's going on and then leave a comment other than "you suck".

Plus, I think a lot of them had been in the exact same situation and they were kicked to the curb by the wife.

Zeb, that albatross looks like some sort of extraterrestrial. I can't stop staring back at it. It's the eyes, in their unblinking gaze into my soul. That's one more animal to add the list of animals that creep me out.

How do you like my puppy? He doesn't growl or bark, he just sits there staring holes in your soul with a deep, deep rumble in his chest. When the rumble stops...run...just run. I'll try and hold the leash so he won't get you. ;)

i reckon a fair few of the LW crowd love the stories but won't admit it to themselves. ergo, they transfer the self-loathing for their own feelings on to the writer.

of course, zeb's comments are valid too.

i just love tweaking the LW trolls. :D

1. Wife Sharing/Cheating Wives bring out insecurities in the minds of the weak, and they absolutely hate being subjected to it. Posting nasty comments and sending anonymous threats are the only way they can relieve the incredible mental pressure you may have put their pea-brains through.

2. They've been subjected to a cheating spouse before, and I humbly assume, they never got over the painful divorce.

3. Some minor variations to the above point.

4. If none of the above points, I assume they do it just because...they can...? Seeing that others before him have posted nasty comments, a reader (read loser) with a deviant bend of mind can feel the intense urge to spit out something equally incoherent as the rest of the trolls.

Herd Mentality, I guess. ;)

I suggest everyone to ignore such idiots. Let them wallow in their anonymity for the remainder of their pathetic lives.

I think LW gets somewhat of a bad rap. I recently posted a story there called Ofice Wife. http://www.literotica.com/s/office-wife

In my story, the cheaters are unpunished and unrepentant. A perfect formula for bringing out the trolls. Many negative comments were made (some of them are wacko and funny).

But the story also was favorited 69 times (more than some of the Hall of Fame stories) and received a 4.38 vote. I'd say that's pretty nice treatment overall.

Most of my LW stories, in the beginning did poorly as for score...less than 3. In the long run though, most achieved a red H with scores at or above 4.5. That's what surprised me most. The trolls were there in the beginning to do what trolls do...troll. Then the wave of real readers sweep through. Most never left a comment, just a vote.

I really never paid attention to favorite stats. Most are used as bookmarks to find the story if they didn't finish it the first time around.

Geronimo - if you read my story Oh Crap, you'll see exactly what you proposed, plus some.

I have a dog that I often take with me when I run errands. The ladies at the drive thru bank love him. He stares straight ahead when we are stopped, stares with intensity. They always comment about it. Once they invited him in to say hello, it was nearly time to close and I took him in and they all loved him. He's really good with strangers. Next time at the drive thru I was sure he would look at them but nope, straight ahead with laser eyes. It's weird because when we are moving he looks around.

When the bank ladies send a doggie treat back to me with my receipt or cash or whatever, he picks it up off the console between the seats where I put it and takes it into the back seat to eat.

That's what I love about the trolls. They crack me up. You just have to love someone that posts "lern how two spell coksukr" for the whole world to read. :D

The same reason you should stay the hell off certain sub-Reddits unless you want to read 50 new variations on the theme of women corrupting the general's precious bodily fluids.

Strangely enough, now that I actually have two LW submissions under my belt, I don't think it's all that bad. Most of the comments were well thought out and even the critique was spot on with certain continuity details I had overlooked.

I don't know about you, but I prefer those comments to the generic "I came a gazillion times at every word of this super-fucking-fantabulous story which is the greatest thing written since Infinite Jest"
I may be a bit biased towards David Foster Wallace

One thing I did get was a definite misogynistic vibe (even from commentors who seemed female), but that comes with the territory I guess. Even then it was generally well articulated. Not to say there weren't troll comments about how someone should have beaten and eviscerated someone else and the... ahem... uncertain parentage of my main protagonist, it was definitely less than a few other corners of the net like 4chan or fark. Not that fark should ever be considered a yardstick for female respect.

Anyway, the crux of my incessant rant boils down to the simple maxim - write a good story and people will comment positively. Not even the best stories on the planet (even those written by DFW) can be entirely free from trolls, but you as a writer should weigh the majority of the comments and weed out the few outliers.

I've only placed one story in the LW category (A Day in the Life of a Used Car Salesman).
I can live with the low ratings.
But I find it slightly disturbing that a relatively harmless sex story should cause readers to urge me to kill myself...

So yeah, apparently, some categories suffer from "unwritten rules".
I once got severely criticized for writing an "interracial" story in which a black man did not impregnate the white woman. Go figure...
