At least 11 Dead in Paris

I agree, cops, esp. in Paris, should be armed.

There are three types of Police in France. The Gendarmerie are an armed paramilitary force. The ordinary Police, like the Policeman killed on the street, have less authority and are not usually armed. The UK equivalent might be Traffic Wardens.

The CRS, the Riot Police, are very different. You don't fuck with the CRS. If they are on the street you can expect trouble in the immediate area very soon. As a tourist, if you see the CRS, get well away. Think SWAT about to go into action.

Does it have to be? Is killing Jews ok in france as long as it doesn't lead to other attacks?

Sorry, I left out some words because I am still somewhat asleep or something it should have been:

A car also exploded outside a Paris synagogue, I hope the killings were not a signal for other events.

personally, zip, i think they are indeed terrorists linked with extremist militant muslim movements. but until the group responsible announce their culpability, the unlikely is still a possibility.

edit: you just made me realise i left off the end of my sentence.
any outside faction with an interest in polarising positions, for whatever purpose, could manufacture this horrific event. it's not an unknown concept.

Police issued a document to forces across the region saying the three men were being sought for murder in relation to the Charlie Hebdo attack. The document, reviewed by a Reuters correspondent, named them as Said Kouachi, born in 1980, Cherif Kouachi, born in 1982, and Hamyd Mourad, born in 1996.

Uh, U_D, you big ol' dumbass, you did not express any sympathy...

Neither did chippy.

You went for your enemies, she went to vacillation and PC euphemisms.

How could they possibly ID masked gunmen that fast?

I could see tracing them camera to camera, but that would tell you where, not who.

Actually Cap'n Moron I pointed out the fact that you and your merry band of idiots did nothing but take this tragedy as an opportunity to attack all of Islam, as usual. I pointed out the absolute lack of empathy and sympathy for the victims and their families shown by you and the rest of the RWNJ brigade.

Pointing out your lack means that I actually DO care about those people. I don't think that you and your bandof enabling neaderthals actually give two shits about the people killed in the attack, only that you can use it as an excuse to fuel your hate. That is the reality that you presented in this thread for all to see.

Your behavior would be surprising, to someone who hasn't seen this play out before.

He doesn't hate....he said so; so it must be so!

Woof!

I am going to stick my neck out and invite hate mail but I feel the need to speak up on this topic. I abhor what was done in France. I abhor the beheadings and 9/11. Muslim fundamentalists intent on destroying western society need to be stopped. So do extremists of any type bent on destruction and death as a way to make their point. That being said, the vast majority of Muslims in this world are peace loving people. Here are a few facts about Muslims: they make up almost 25% of the world's population; over 60% of Muslims live in Asia and South Asia; only 20% of Muslims live in Arab countries; according to the FBI, in the US Muslims only accounted for 6% of terrorist attacks between 1980 and 2005 (although deaths because of 9-11 were significantly higher). In the grand scheme of recent world history it may be wise to consider the following before condemning any group as a whole.

• Who exterminated 6 million Jews, Catholics and other dissidents during WWII?
• Who killed 200,000 Hutus in Burundi and 800,000 Tutsis in Rwanda?
• Who killed 20 million Aborigines in Australia?
• Who dropped the nuclear bombs which killed 166,000 civilians in Hiroshima and 80,000 in Nagasaki?
• Who killed more than 100 million Indians in North America?
• Who killed more than 50 million Indians in South America?
• Who took 180 million African people as slaves and when 88% of them died, threw them into the Atlantic Ocean?

I could go on and on but you get the point. Okay, now you can let the hate mail fly. Most of it, I am sure, will be from the same creeps that want to see a picture of my (nonexistent) boobs or light my fire with their overstated sex organs.

You and your nonexistent boobs rock.

France is the country that launched the Crusades.

France did not launch the crusades. They were launched in 1096 by Pope Urban. The support came from the areas which now make up southern Germany and other adjacent states which did not come under French control for 400 years

At the time of the crusades there were no Nation States in Europe. Political power was solely in the hands of great dynasties bound by personal loyalty to an overlord, not statehood.

There was England, sir. Ever since Alfred the Great in the 9th century.

Back on topic, I thought this was an excellent article that avoided the cliches on both sides of liberal mealy mouth syndrome and frothy mouthed Islamophobia.

Might want to check your facts and figures before posting.
Before white settlement, the population of Aboriginal Australians was somewhere between 315.000 and 750,000.
Nowhere near 20 million.

NY Times: Paris Terror Attack Will Hit Muslims The Hardest…

They never fail.

Via Daily Caller:

A dozen people may have been murdered by Islamic terrorists in Paris Wednesday morning, but The New York Times can’t help but note the real tragedy behind the shooting: the growth of Islamophobia.

The attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo for its publication of images of Muhammad is “sure to accelerate the growth of anti-Islamic sentiment in Europe, feeding far- right nationalist parties like France’s National Front,” frets Times reporters Steven Erlanger and Katrin Bennhold in an article entitled “Paris Attack Reflects a ‘Dangerous Moment’ for Europe.” […]

The Times quotes a series of French Muslims and European intellectuals concerned about how (gasp!) right-wing groups in Europe could capitalize on the attacks. “Islamophobia is going to increase more and more…” says one Parisian Muslim. “And it’s the extreme right that’s going to benefit from this.”

CAIR Statement On Paris Terror Attack Condemns “Anti-Muslim Bigots”…

CAIR

And yet CAIR pretends to be outraged when Muslim leaders are criticized for not speaking out against jihadists.

(CNSNews.com) – The “proper response” to attacks like the one targeting a satirical French magazine in Paris Wednesday is not to vilify any faith, but to “marginalize extremists of all backgrounds who seek to stifle freedom and to create or widen societal divisions,” the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said Wednesday.

“We strongly condemn this brutal and cowardly attack and reiterate our repudiation of any such assault on freedom of speech, even speech that mocks faiths and religious figures,” CAIR national executive director Nihad Awad said in a statement.

Asked whether the group’s reference to “extremists of all backgrounds” included those who offend Muslims by, for instance, publishing cartoons satirizing Mohammed, CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper agreed.

“We were talking about the twin extremes of ISIS-type extremists and anti-Muslim bigots,” he said in an email.

Almost, but Alfred never ruled more than about 40% of modern England. Edgar and Athelstan achieved 100% a couple of generations later.:)

I know that really, having studied Anglo-Saxon. I'm just proud of Alfred for various personal reasons! And, as you say, he set it up and founded the dynasty. But his was already a state in all but name, with a written legislature, a de facto common language, a standing army and even a fledgling navy.
