Once again, the NYPD takes a page from their spiritual kin at the Westboro Baptist Church and uses a solemn funeral as an occasion for political grandstanding. LINK

Those who did that really need to grow up. If that's their best judgment I'm not sure I'd want them as cops.

I can't think of another profession that vehemently demands to be exempted from oversight than law enforcement.

They were told not to do this by the Commissioner.

Don't really keen on having my taxes going to pay for a private security firm filled with pollyannas that pick and choose when to do their job properly. If they're not going to be civil servants respectful to the chain of command, cut their fucking employment.

As the commie Mayor shows up in a pro-police costume he never wore in real life. Little is said about his massive hypocrisy present in his anti-police election campaign.

And you think the funeral of a dead cop is the place for this kind of stunt, do you?

Deflect, distract, and move the goalposts. We're talking about cops flagrantly disobeying their superior. You approve of that?

If that superior is a hypocrite and world class asshole such as the mayor, yes. But, in what way did they actually disobey him. They showed their contempt, but that is their right. Telling the cops to disregard their own rights is not a valid order.

I'm referring to Bratton, who instructed them not to pull that bullshit.

Politicians certainly do. So do lawyers and clergy members and judges.

Politicians are nominally subject to removal by voters.
Lawyers can be sanctioned by the bar association (remember when Ishmael threatened a lawyer here to refer her to the bar for disciplinary action for havin' the temerity to disagree with him?)
Judges are subject to override by appellate courts.
I'll grant you that some evangelical churches have clergy not subject to oversight.

it sounds like most of you who dont like the people protestin support the cops protesting and most of yous who dont like the cops protesting support the peoples protesting. just like flip flops on sale at shoe karnival! Git it? HA! i say PROTEST the fuck away mutherfuckeers! peoples cops whatevers!

How did they disobey? Was there a direct order given?

Ahead of slain police officer Wenjian Liu's funeral tomorrow, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton told all officers to refrain from turning their back to Mayor Bill de Blasio. Bratton stated in the department-wide memo, "A hero’s funeral is about grieving, not grievance."

I would call this an order.

He did not "instruct" them, he did not order them...he pleaded withe them. This is part of what he said:

“I issue no mandates and I make no threats of discipline,” the memo said. “But I remind you that when you don the uniform of this department, you are bound by the tradition, honor, and decency that go with it.”

That is not an order to do anything.

You'd be wailing like a motherfucker if some soldiers had done this to Bush.

You would, because you probably gave one in your life. If it was an order it had no teeth:

“I issue no mandates and I make no threats of discipline,” the memo said. “But I remind you that when you don the uniform of this department, you are bound by the tradition, honor, and decency that go with it.”

An order is a mandate, and in almost all scenarios, carries the threat of discipline for not carrying it out.

You missed a word, tubby.

Dodged this one again.

His Vietnam-era USMC training kicked in: At the first sign of hostile fire, it's drop a doughy pantload, drop your weapon and desert the battlefield. "Advance to the rear" I believe its called.

So then we can infer that you defend and approve of their juvenile display of non professionalism at a solemn ceremony.

And yet the oddballs were concerned about the solemn dignity that should be displayed by presidential children at such a moving ceremony as a turkey pardoning. It is interesting the things that outrage them and the things that don't.
