Well I got fed up with all these guys (mostly) bumping their threads, not seeming to figure out why they haven't got a reply. Glad you find it funny.

I dunno, when you're just looking to have a fun time and get to know new people, it seems fine to me. I mean obviously, you would do better with writing a new post, but I've bumped my own thread before several times, and each time I've gotten to meet new great people to chat and play with. I mean how many different ways can someone say "hi, looking to chat, maybe more?" which honestly, is really what about 70% of the posts that are on here really are wanting. Most people don't scroll past the second page of threads, and with the number of posts that this site gets, you can put all the time and effort into a post and it can get buried within a few hours - which I've had happen before. As some have pointed out, bumping your own thread can be a turn off and so the appropriate response is to not reply. But maybe for others it is something like, "Oh hey, I remember reading this post last week and I was going to reply but it was really late and I wanted to get to bed and now I'm glad it's on the front page again because it reminded me that I wanted to reply to this person."

My question is why does it bother you so much?

Are we differentiating between bump types? Those that just say "bump" with those that say something like, "giving this thread another boost. Looking for blah blah blah." It would seem that those that had threads that had some legs to them might want to try starting them again whereas those that had unsuccessful threads with no following probably would want to start anew.

I don't know, in the scheme of things bumps don't bother me too much.

I suppose hourly seems a bit much, but really, it's like advertising. The more people see your post, the more likely you are to get someone to respond. It might seem a bit lazy, but in the big picture it's actually effective.

Don't get me wrong, you should put a little effort into your post, and really the best way to get responses is to stand out from the crowd, but again, a lot of us are here for the same reason. And we all know how horny or desperate someone can get. I mean it seems like half of the posts are from married people who are just trying to prevent themselves from physically cheating on their spouse. Maybe they are desperate. And they're doing what they can to attract someone's attention. I just don't get why we would begrudge someone for casting a wide net.

I do feel a twinge of sympathy for threads that only contain careless bumping. The isolation must be discouraging. But yes the relative minority of women on lit who aren't men in disguise appreciate a little more creativity...

I can see the reasoning behind bumping a thread that has been quiet for a while. I mean some threads can be active then go quiet and slip way down the pages and when brought back, they are popular again. But a thread where just about the only posts are the daily bumps....that should be a signal to the OP that it should quietly slip off to the island of mis fit threads.

Bumping your own thread is marginally acceptable, if it's active from other users contributing to it.

The irritation comes when the OP keeps bumping his or her thread, when there has been NO contribution from other users - ever.

That kind of useless shit has the habit of knocking decent, genuinely active threads off the first page and into oblivion - at least until some silly wanker revives it 2 years later of course.

It's like one person sitting in the corner of a small room on their own, shouting "BUMP!, BUMPITY BUMP!, BUMPAGE!" etc.

Would YOU talk to someone who was doing that?

Well, when you've got a bunch of guys (and let's admit it, it's mostly guys) driven on by testosterone keep bumping on with no result it creates a reality. One can either withdraw from reality or deal with it. Until the perfect world is created I suggest bumping if need be and relying on those with an obvious eye for quality to bump for you. If not it's back to the... bump... bump... bump... bump... bump
