So when is this "Honest" discussion regarding race relations goint to occur?

It happens to be true.
Look at all of the jobs that used to be filled by the colored people.
The Mexicans have pushed them out into the welfare line.

Mexicans are people of color. Racist dipshit.

All is no doubt true. They say that hope springs eternal, but from where? It springs forth, according to Pope, in the human breast. Not so much from station, class, or wealth, but from a belief in a path to a better future, a belief that one can walk the path. The trouble is, it hinges on a faith in one's self in order to fuel a desire to overcome diversity. I'm not sure the window for self redemption is a long one; for many it's closed.

Which springs from an enviroment in which anybody can suceed. America doesn't feel like that place for so very many of us. And you can call me all the names you want then turn on your television and know that every man and woman marching across this country (and in various other ways around the world) do not feel like they have a fair game set in front of them.

For many, including yourself, the window is probably closed.

Quite possibly. But don't expect those of us for whom the window is closed or being closed on our faces to go gently into that good night. Sooner or later the bricks come out. Because they must.

Wasn't what people said when Zimmerman had to kill that colored boy.
Remember that?

When we get tired of playing with you we will replace you with Mexicans.
They are a lot more friendly, honest, hard working, an even better looking.

Good luck with that!

In fairness we Americans have a bad habit of using the terms interchangibly.

No fucking shit! In the early 80s, ANY and ALL darked skinned young men not obviously Italian were Puerto Rican and therefore subject to being called Juan by the police, being put in cuffs, put in the back of their cruisers, and being brought down to the police station WITHOUT identifications being requested or taken. There are still cops in this city that call me Juan just because I have a tan all year round.

In Texas, I was called a Mexican.
In Florida, I was called a Cuban, except when I went to Daytona for the 500 and then I was called "Catholic!"

Yes, poverty is a factor, but I disagree that it is the key factor. You can be poor, but with hope you can see brighter days ahead. But without hope there is nothing and even if you're wealthy you can be without hope and do very destructive things.........like suicide.

Look at the illegal immigrants coming in, the ones that are going to be taking the starting rung jobs. You have no idea what poverty is smooth until you visit where they're coming from. They will eagerly take those jobs and work their ass off because they have HOPE! Of course that will change for most of their children and/or grandchildren. And when they become hopeless what are we to do? Let in several millions more?

What government program in existence, or can be dreamed up, will restore hope smooth? Raise the minimum wage? See JBJ's posts re. robots. Raising the minimum wage will only cause employers to automate even faster. The automation manufacturers and automation integrators will enjoy a windfall. And the jobs that will remain in the service sector, housekeeping/janitorial, etc.? Well, those are going to be filled by the new immigrants.

How can hope be restored once lost?

Believe it or not being poor is a major factor. When you are in you teens, you commit crimes just for the thrill. Just to get your name up a little bit, just to feel like you are cool. But when you get a little older, you commit crimes for one reason only, the money. There is no other reason, its the only reason. Now if money plays that big of a part, into criminal activity, poverty have to be a big factor.

We're almost as bad with Asians. I honestly don't try anymore for two reasons. One I found out the hard way that calling a Cuban Mexican is a good way to catch a fist with your jaw. When he later explained why it was like dude you are so lucky I was on the ground from your sucker punch cus I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings. Now you said you're Venezualan? Or is it Aztec?

We kinda suck at it. I also don't care what you are unless it is somehow relevant to the conversation at hand. I'm not saying I don't see race, I'm saying that over all I'm not gonna bring it up.

Maybe a lack of work ethic would be closer to the truth.

Growing up, we never thought much about race on the basketball courts, the sandlots, and streets in the city. Why? Because it was all about how well you could play, not the color of your skin, unless you played shirts and skins and no one wanted to see one ginger player without a shirt on  (Not even he wanted that!)

And the only race that matters to me is the next one that's on tv, you know the ones I'm talking about - four wheels and engines...vroom vroom

You have just made the case that if we want to get rid of crime all we have to do is kill all poor people because to be poor is to be a criminal.

I'm not buying that shit.
