The First Lady had some things to say about race with the benefit of a fine, expensive Princeton education:

This is college level work? Ivy-league college level work?

I would LOVE to see anything actually turned in by Barry.

What I found interesting in her little thesis was how she explains that she became even more aware of how underprivileged she is because of her race WHILE attending one of the most prestigious schools in the country on what I will bet was a full-ride scholarship. Given the level of "scholarship" of her thesis I am guessing it was not merit that got her into Princeton where they could teach her how underprivileged she is.

Kind of circular reasoning.

In another thread, Candi is talking about what she "knows' about privilege from "studying" it, and another person is rejecting a posters real life experience and suggesting they "take a class" to understand privilege.

How about we all are humans we leave names and race off the admissions forms and see who gets admitted and who does not.

The only way I'm getting close to that type of money is by selling drugs. Sad but true. Here they call it a good job, if you are making 15+an hour. I got in a argument with one of my cousins over that. He thought he was balling because he is making about 17 a hour., working at housing. I'm like brah, you barely making over 30k a year before taxes. And when they take taxes you not even making 30k a year. You live with your mother, so you are not paying rent. That's the only reason you can afford 250$ sneakers, 400$ shoes and 200$ jeans.. Because you don't have no other way to spend your money.. You have no responsibilities. Motherfucker, you ain't balling, you just getting by.

OK smooth, I've been following the thread and your exchanges with SR and others. Rather than put words in your mouth let me make an observation and just ask you whether I'm off base or not.

More than a few people here have blamed poverty as the primary factor in why so many young black men turn to crime. I take issue with that view, I don't think that poverty is the prime factor. I've been looking more and more at a lack of moral underpinnings and guidance as the prime factor. But your posts have given me another insight as to what might be the biggest contributing factor and that factor is "hope."

It seems to me that what you're describing is a community of young men that have given up hope. Hope of ever being able to advance in society and to being able to climb the financial ladder to success. And the thought that you might be right, if you agree with my observation, is scary because you are describing a community of young men that just don't care one way or another. Having the hope that there's an alternative path to success is one of the dampers on taking a path of self-destructive activity. Without hope crime is the only path to the obtaining of one's dreams.

My grandson, who is half black, just won a 100K scholarship for academic and sports performance. His grades are superior, his SAT scores are superior, and he recently got an invite to try-out for Joe Torre's national baseball team. As a 10th grade pitcher he beat a team ranked #2 in America. He doesn't know what SLACK means. He has a barrel of hope. But he also has family who expect his best with a good attitude.

Not exactly new news, warehouse automation has been going on since the '70's. Vertical stacking cranes, wire guided retrieval/delivery vehicles, etc. The big boys have been on that path for decades. What is different these days is that much smaller concerns are now able to afford these automation devices and the fact that the earlier devices were single purpose whereas the robotics evolution is creating multi-purpose devices.

Aw, butthurt little racist bitch can't accept a woman of colour is more successful and smarter than his loser ass.

Other than being successful and educated, another thing she has that you don't is a family that loves and respects her.

There isn't that much demand for burdens. Those people will have to step up and do something with their life or be kicked aside. Most will be kicked aside.

Now that you mention it, this do make a lot of sense. I know I'm hopeless and lost, and I committed crimes. All the rest of the people I know are hopeless and lost, and commit crimes. So I see you point. I feel like the only way I'm going to make it is by being the biggest drug dealer in my city, a lot of times. And I'm fighting hard to get that thought out of my head now. Especially when you come from hustling, and try to work a dead end job. You feel like shit, busting your ass for pennies. So feeling hopeless is a big factor. But poverty is a big factor too.

Smooth, remember your dead end job every time you hear about one of your friends getting killed or going to jail. After a while you will notice your job is not that bad. Most people do not make much money while in jail and damn sure don't when they are dead. Meanwhile you are making money, alive, and not in jail.

The fact that she didn't realize it before college makes a lot of sense. It took getting out of the military and going through a several years of real life for me to figure it out.

Congressional Black Caucus To Speak On House Floor Today Over Ferguson…

Congressional Black Caucus

CBC demonizes white people and plays the race/victim cards in 3… 2… 1…

Via PJM:

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus are planning to speak on the House floor today about the grand jury’s decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown.

The lower chamber comes back into session at 2 p.m. as lawmakers return from the Thanksgiving break.

ep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) told MSNBC this morning that he plans to note that there have been “just too many times, too many instances where people of color, particularly African- Americans and Latinos, have been victimized by a scenario where they’ve been unarmed and — and killed by the police, and that has to stop.”

“You know, we’ve got what took place in Ferguson. And we have two incidences right here in New York, my home state. And so, we’ve got to say that there’s got to be a way that we can — we can do better,” Meeks said.

“…And so, I think that this should be a wake-up call for all of us throughout this country to make sure that this kind of scenario does not take place again. And you know, there should be special training.”

They can kick back, you know.

No, they will make them not a burden at all. This is the problem with people not understanding what automation and robotics actually does and isntead thinking work is good for some ignorant American reason.

There is very little to step up to. The overwhelming majority of humans on earth will be utterly pointless.

Yes, poverty is a factor, but I disagree that it is the key factor. You can be poor, but with hope you can see brighter days ahead. But without hope there is nothing and even if you're wealthy you can be without hope and do very destructive things.........like suicide.

Look at the illegal immigrants coming in, the ones that are going to be taking the starting rung jobs. You have no idea what poverty is smooth until you visit where they're coming from. They will eagerly take those jobs and work their ass off because they have HOPE! Of course that will change for most of their children and/or grandchildren. And when they become hopeless what are we to do? Let in several millions more?

What government program in existence, or can be dreamed up, will restore hope smooth? Raise the minimum wage? See JBJ's posts re. robots. Raising the minimum wage will only cause employers to automate even faster. The automation manufacturers and automation integrators will enjoy a windfall. And the jobs that will remain in the service sector, housekeeping/janitorial, etc.? Well, those are going to be filled by the new immigrants.

How can hope be restored once lost?

Of course it's the key factor. If they weren't impoverished they would have hope to see brighter days ahead. Now of course there are other things. I mean we look up at Obama and Holder and damn, even at the top of the mountain still no respect.

We don't know third world poverty no. And yes they have hope because this is a step up from their world. The letting in several million more (which didn't actually happen anyway) is a complete side issue and you know it.

Raise the minium wage, lower the work week, and if that causes employers to automate (Which they aught do ASAP ANYWAY!) tax and redistribute. It's very fucking simple. How much hope that will spread is a bit of an X factor because we'd have to get into the very nitty gritty of what we spent on and how.

The problem isn't that you don't know the answers Ish, it's that for some reason mostly related to your age you don't like the answers much.

All things being relative, they will accept many more layers of oppression that Americans wouldn't accept, as long as it isn't as bad as that they came here to escape. That's the downside for the future, and the plan.

Well people tend to be that way. But that's all the more reason not to put up with that shit.
