i punch my laptop screen repeatedly, whip it down the stairs and set it on fire.

Recently within the last week all of my net browsers from internet explorer to mozilla and chrome aren't loading a lot of webpages either at all or only partially.

i did several system restores, solved nothing.

i cleared the caches/history and nothing.

i flushed the dns and reset the ip config, solved nothing.

i tried uninstalling both chrome and mozilla, solved nothing and now i can't get chrome to reinstall and mozilla still won't load a lot of webpages.

i dont' understand wtf happened, its like overnight shit just decided not to work right.

i scanned for malware and viruses, nothing found

i tried disabling addons and running firefox in safe mode. still not working right.

any ideas before i throw it down the stairs and have to buy a new computer?

its not my connection because both my phone and net pad are working fine.

If no one comes up with an idea here you can try taking it to Office Depot who will check it out for you. I suspect that you do have a virus. You might be able to pay to get it fixed for far cheaper than buying a new one.

Sounds like a virus/malware to me, too. My husband just spent several days getting rid of malware that hijacked his browser. I'll have to ask him which A/V detected it and how he did it.

1 - I am as close to fuctionally computer illiterate as it gets. I can turn the damn things on and off, that's about it.
2 - It sounds like you either have a virus, which means your not running v-protection or your v-protection didn't see it coming.
3 - computers are stupid objects that don't adhere to the laws of physics or common sense. Sometimes they need to be wiped and rebooted, a project not for the faint of heart or computer illiterate. If you do not have the ability to back up your system and reformat it, then you will need to seek the help of a technogeek to do it for you.
4 - If you are somewhat computer literate, back up your system, then go through all your crap files and delete what isn't pertinent, run a malware program, a clutter remover, such as CC Cleaner, virus scan, then defrag your hard drive. One thing about data and hard drives, the more close to capacity a hard drive gets, the more slow and finicky a computer runs, which could be part of your problem.

Again, I'm functionally illiterate, but that doesn't mean that I don't know a few causes of major computer problems. Personally, I keep a resident technogeek on hand to deal with any issues I have so that I don't have to deal with these fucking magic boxes! I do feel your pain though

well the wonderful thing about certain websites not loading is the ones i need won't load, i'm unable to download any kind of virus scan or the CC cleaner, i can run a search on google but when i try to go to the site it doesn't load.

i can't even get simple store sites to load like walmart etc.

whats a good program that i can buy at a store?

Personally it sounds to me like you are trying to go to Biff's friend to fix your car, who will probably screw it up worse than if you went to a real car mechanic. You will inevitably pay fifty to a hundred bucks for a good virus/malware program that your laptop might not even let you install. Office Depot or some other legitimate tech geek will do it far cheaper in the end, unless you have stuff on your system that you wouldn't want a tech geek to see and you can't get rid of it beforehand. You are in territory that needs professional people help and I doubt buying some kind of program is going to fix your problem.

Try this link...Malwarebytes

Click on the download for the free version. If you can't get to the link...take a fresh usb thumb drive to your local library and download it from one of their computers. The same for any of the other items mentioned here.

CCleaner
Spybot Search & Destroy

I would also suggest getting a new virus checker...

AVG free version is excellent.

or

Avast free version.

Either is good. I favor AVG...Avast has a tendency to talk too much.

Hope this helps.

I agree with CCleaner. It has a registry cleaner which has helped many a problems for me. Hopefully that will help. You can download it from cnet on another computer onto a flash drive and then plug that into your laptop.

If it's selectively blocking sites where you could buy AV software, then yeah, almost certainly a virus.

If you don't have another computer, do you have a friend who can download the free software for you onto a CD and USB drive? If so, try that before buying any software at a store.

While you're at it, you might to have the same friend burn you a copy of one of the more user-friendly Linux distributions. You can then run it as a "live CD" and get online before you virus issue is fixed (even after it's fixed, it's a good idea to browse porn and foreign sites on Linux to avoid future virus issues).

alright so i was able to use another computer to get a free version of AVG, did a scan last night which took forever and end result.......nothing found. well wtf.

I've also noticed that it changes from day to day, sometime i can get youtube to load, next day it won't.

i guess if i have to do a complete reinstall, thats what i'll have to do.

Sounds like malware...download malwarebytes. Oh, and it may take two or three times to get rid of.

I had one that really didn't do anything, but sit there. Why? I don't know. But Malwarebytes was the only thing that found it and finally got rid of it.

AVG is actually a good virus checker. It has stopped many a trojan from infecting my machine.

Toolbox:

AVG
Malwarebytes
CCleaner
Spybot Search & Destroy

I'm sure there are others that are just as good, but these I have used for the past 10 years. Did my machine get infected? Yep...silly me going to site I knew I shouldn't go to. If one of the above didn't catch it, one of the others did. My machine has been virus, trojan, malware free for longer than I can remember.

Geekstogo

Go to Geekstogo and they will help remove what you have for free. You have to join the forum and then download OTL and post the info after you run the scan.

They are very helpful. I have used them 3 times in about 15 years. I run AVG and CC cleaner but a survey pop-up and re-direct got through last week. I am almost done with them now.

It is done by volunteers so be patient.

Hope that helps.

Hubby used Panda A/V, Malwarebytes and Adaware to remove the hijacker on his browser. Might be worth a shot.

well i figured out its something with my ISP.

my other computer is doing the same thing.

took my main computer over to someone else's house and everything loads just fine.

guess i need to give them a call tomorrow and tell them to fix it.

That happened to me a while back, pages were not loading but internet was working fine. I was wondering if something is wrong with my pc, until i asked my friend to open same website in his house and wtf it did open. Had to call my service provider and everything got fixed.

did they say what the problem was with the isp?

Some browsers do funny things with secured pages if your computers date has been set back.

If multiple computers are acting up I would say most likely parental settings on your router. Usually a button on the bottom of the router to reset to factory defaults.

alright so and update for anyone that is following this and has any issues like this.

it ended up being a router issue, I went into my router settings and updated the firmware and now everything is working normally.

such weird shit can make things go haywire.

anyways thanks for all the suggestions.

You could always pic up one of those new iMacs. Gorgeous 5k resolution screen, no malware bullshit to deal with.
