I have a week off in October during my birthday and I want to take a trip somewhere, I just can't decide where!! Any suggestions? I've been debating Vegas, San Diego, or perhaps London if I squeeze in enough OT at work. Maybe NYC? Thoughts??

Hard to say without knowing where you've been, but Paris should be on the short list. Prague is cool. Charleston. New Orleans.

What do you want to do? Sightsee? Beach? Shows? Relax? Depends on your interests.

I prefer larger cities due to the variety. I love to explore! Shows, museums, and sightseeing are fun, as is lazing on a beach or near the pool for a few hours.

I was going to suggest New Orleans. I was a cop in that area and spent a lot of time there. It isn't for everyone but it is a fun place with excellent food. Just do not wander off into the wrong places and you will have an excellent time.

I read this as Vatican suggestions

and I actually had some. ;)

October would be nice for fall colors in New England- Vermont, New Hampshire, Boston.

Have you been to San Fransisco? That is always fun.

I also like Epcot center in Orlando.

A week is really not enough time for Europe, I don't think.

Hmmm I have always wanted to see New England in the fall. Perhaps I need to give more consideration to Boston. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Just back from a week in Chicago. Fantastic food, parks, shopping, museums, culture, and music! Went about 10 years ago and had a great time then too. The city has only gotten better! Super nice reception by locals and the tourists are truly international. I met people from all over the world this past week.

we are going to smoky mtns gatlinburgh tenn.we looking for peace and quiet.anyone else been?

Screw Vegas. Go to Reno.

If you do San Francisco, I recommend staying across the Bay in Berkerly & taking the BART to and from. This also makes it less hassle to drive up through Petaluma into Napa, or drive east (Old Sacramento is pretty cool & worth a few hours) maybe up to Tahoe if you want to hit a few casinos (or all the way to Reno if you want to hit a lot of casinos).

Old Sacramento has a steam train and a railroad museum. I had some weird dim sum fusion thing there, but some really good traditional dim sum in Sacramento itself.
