Gah my smart new dress with the nautical navy blue stripes has shrunk! I thought I would just be able to get away with it for work-y things, but now it's a mini dress that shows off far too much of my legs.

Good job that I didn't go: 'Oooh, I will go on a diet and lose weight and so I will get the smaller size dress,'. No no, with age has come wisdom. Gosh, dieting might mean not being able to continue my comparative research project on scoffling up different kinds of chocolate flavoured with sea salt! I bought a baggier bigger size  - which now fits rather snugly round my curves!

MILF's are supposed to show lots of leg. Dark stockings with a Navy Blue works wonders. ;)

Woke up with a virus of some kind Tuesday morning. Spent pretty much all day in bed and not in a good way. Finally around 1am, and after 24 hours of no food, I felt better. And here I am. I really think I ought to go back to bed. I think I've had enough Saltines.

Or maybe the more conventional Black ?

Yes, that will do me a lot of good in work. The dress is so short now that when I cycle, it shows my white cotton knickers off, stockings would be just the thing of course!

:rose: Get well soon.

Poor Piglet's second goldfish has gone down. :( Short but moving ceremony to be held later with the other cub scouts.

Both times it happened after we rinsed through the filter sponges - although we carefully did this in the dirty water as you are supposed to. Maybe we still cleaned out too much beneficial bacteria. Do let me know if you are a coldwater goldfish expert and have thoughts on this. (I am more of a tropical fish person.) I will phone the fish shop, although they are a big commercial set-up so may not be of much assistance.

Being sick and lying in bed in the middle of a heat wave is NOT fun at all! :(

(The good news is that I'm almost back to "normal".)

I dropped down to 221 pounds for the first time in 7 or 8 years. If I can keep it off and drop to 220 by Thursday I will have ice cream with the kung fu people after dinner :D

Bloody Electronics.
My [expensive] Ham radio seems to be affected by some ghastly interference from a source unknown. This at a very inconvenient time.
Oh Drat, Blast, and Hangit. !

Do you have a screened room? My shed at home was originally used by a ham operator and has screen wire on all the walls connected to ground. It keeps out and outside interference.

Sooo... On Sunday or Monday I may or may not be flying out to Florida, Arizona, or Colorado for a month or two to measure some banks. I will update with specifics as soon as I have some myself...

'Fraid not. Such a thing in this house would require a very complex thing. But I do have a very Thick wire running down outside the wall to an Earth Spike.

Nice to know you may have to get your travelling kit together; or may not. . .
:)

Just back from Florida. It was hot, but I didn't melt. The ocean or the pool provides adequate respite, Thee. I've been in Death Valley around that time, too -- 124 degrees. The pool there is great.

We've been having real RAIN. The sort that soaks you in less than ten paces.
And now it's merely 'cloudy'.
Grrrrr

I like heatwaves. They help my old bones. ;)

I'll soon make a heatwave for you.

I am going to Florida... In July/August... I'm going to melt...

Have a good trip, Thee! I don't know why you're going there to measure banks ... and I don't want to know, LOL. (Did you get ice cream the other night?)

Nice to see you back in one piece!

Lovely day today, though, dear. Maybe you'll get down to the canal.
Dr's trip OK?

Nearly three weeks since I had my interview. Still waiting for a response from a whole range of people I am asking, as to how I can possibly have been deemed unappointable to teach a low level module on a subject about which I have published research articles in high class journals. Second time in two years this has happened.

I mean, it's not much of a job. I just wish they'd let me get on with it peacefully.

Walked around our town centre today.

A cash converter (modern pawnbroker) shop has been repossessed by the landlord, and yet another charity shop has shut down claiming excessive rents/rates.

In recent weeks several other shops have closed because of high running costs, some of them decades old.

But three empty shops are opening as new businesses this month. Do we need yet another Indian Take-Away (six already!) or a large Tapas bar?

Ice cream is tomorrow night after kung fu class. I was making it dependent on whether I lost that last pound or not (I haven't, I gained two), but since I'm going to Florida next week, I'm having it anyway.

You have reminded me about one of my job rejections, for a routine office post that I was supposed to be shortlisted for because I was being made redundant (the redundancy is a long involved story that I won't revisit).

They insisted on me taking three tests before the interview, because the other candidates were taking them. It didn't matter that I had taken those three tests several times in the previous months for other unsuccessful applications with the same department.

The tests were the same as before. The questions were exactly the same. I had done very well the first time. By this time, the sixth attempt at the same questions, I was almost perfect on all of them.

The results were supposed to be expressed as percentiles of British managers. The usual expected result was 50%, but since this was local government, 35% on the financial awareness test was 'good', and 40% on the other two would be more than acceptable.

The first time I had taken the tests my results were Finance 96%, the other two 97%. This sixth time I scored 99.9% on Finance because there was no way on their results card to score 100%, and 100% on the other two. I wasn't surprised. The interviewers were.

The best the other candidates had reached was 27% on Finance and 37% on the other two.

I wasn't selected. Why?

Two reasons given by the embarrassed Personnel Manager who was an observer of the interview, not part of the panel:

1. My test results for each single test were higher than the sum of the three results achieved by each of the other candidates, and critically, higher than the sum of the best results achieved by the people interviewing me - so at best each other candidate and each manager had scored an average of 33% or lower on each test.

2. Even more disastrous - my psychometric testing indicated that I didn't suffer fools gladly, that I would take over anything that wasn't running well, that I had very definite opinions about how to achieve results, had great and justified confidence in my own abilities, and would attempt to subvert/re-educate any manager who was obstructing the department's performance. To sum up - I was a know it all which was bad enough, but I was a know it all who really did know it all. I had scared the interviewers stiff. All three of them were frightened that if they had appointed me I would be replacing them within months.

I didn't agree with the psychometric testing. I thought that the results were skewed by my annoyance at being asked to take the three tests for the sixth time.

But I had to agree that I had probably scared the interviewers. One asked about which management theory I followed. I had given them a lecture on management theories and theorists and had mentioned theories they had never heard of, with concise explanations of what they were. I had concluded that Parkinson's Law was probably the best description of most local government processes...

I became self-employed. :D

Awww, thanks Ogg. I am very honoured to be in any way in a similar employment fiasco as you!

I suppose I know that I am streets better than them and that the line managers hate me for it instead of giving me more students to support and retain on the modules (highest retention figure on all modules I ever taught, not that these people care about statistics except when they think they can say I don't understand how to teach them  but of course I do so then they say I can't do research which I can also do but everyone is bored by then so I don't get the job anyway).

I just would like to actually hear the fictitious reason they are giving for not making me appointable. Although in a way, taking nearly a month to come back and tell me is probably grounds for a grievance all on its own.

So much time wasted :(. Never mind, school's on strike tomorrow so I will go to the beach with hordes of horrid children and play Crazy Golf and eat icecream.

What flavour icecream will you be having, Thee? I like Turkish Delight. Or there is a sort of Golden Crunch-y thing that is very delicious. :p
