The government of Iraq has actually held much out longer than I predicted.

Years ago, when those on the right were bemoaning our departure from Iraq I told them that it didn't really matter when we left, in ten months or ten years, that Iraq would descend into chaos and the extremist religious factions would duke it out until one came out on top.

Why? Because we installed a system of government on the Iraq people that they did not understand. Something so completely foreign to the general population that it was doomed to fail from the start.

I will say that for sure the Pakis having ANY idea about it was from State Department press release after planted story in Egyptian paper led to Egyptian Embassy apologizing then huge ad buys in Pakistan apologizing for offending them with a video none of them had seen.

There hadn't been a Danish Cartoon/ Southpark episode sort of thing to hand their "we bring this on ourselves by offending them" meme in a while, so this meets the minimum thresh-hold on my plausibility meter.

IF they had a hand in (at minimum) promoting it they of course could not have known HOW much they would come to rely on it.

Hell, Phrodeau STILL maintains that Benghazi was related in SOME way to the video when it had ZIP to do with it.

It's like walking up to the biggest guy in the bar and saying..."I just want you to know that I do NOT agree with THAT guy over there that you are a pussy."

Why would the US embassy in Cairo issue an apology (via TWITTER) for a video that no one saw....BEFORE the demonstrations started......why DELETE the TWEET during the demonstration?

The surprise arrest Sunday of a “key leader” of the attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, who had been living openly and interviewed by the media despite being indicted nearly a year ago, has prompted speculation the raid was timed to take the heat off an increasingly beleaguered White House.

“All of these decisions are political,” said Fred Burton, vice president of intelligence with Stratfor, a commercial intelligence service. “It is curious, the timing ... I know the suspect was identified early after the attack and he certainly was accessible to a range of reporters from various international media outlets who interviewed him inside of Benghazi. At the end of the day, these decisions are signed off by the (National Security Council) and the White House. It’s really a question for them.”

Ahmed Abu Khatallah was seized Sunday by a U.S. special operations team in Benghazi and is expected to be returned to Washington, D.C., to face a three-count criminal complaint in U.S. District Court.

The complaint filed in July 2013 charges Khatallah with killing a person in the course of an attack on a federal facility, providing material support to terrorists resulting in death, use of a firearm in a crime of violence. An attached affidavit is sealed. He could be sentenced to death if he is convicted.

Last August, Abu Khatallah told The Associated Press he was not in hiding. He denied involvement and said he had abandoned the militia. Administration officials said yesterday that though reporters were able to find him, he “evaded capture” until the weekend raid.

Burton said the arrest “sends a signal that the long arm of justice is there. In light of who was killed, it’s interesting that prosecution was the decision made versus killing him. It would have been easier to take him out ... But I don’t have an explanation as to why it took so long to get to this.”

The Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Benghazi, on the 11th anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. Stevens was the first U.S. ambassador to be killed in the line of duty in more than 30 years. Also killed was former U.S. Navy SEAL and Winchester native Glen Doherty, who was working as a security contractor. The incident has turned into a political issue, with Republicans accusing the Obama administration and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of incompetence, an attempted coverup, and failing to do anything to save the men as the attack unfolded.
