The Homophobic Alphabet

Some . . . interesting terms, to say the least. Many, I'm betting, are based on the author's personal experience and don't necessarily indicate any sort of widespread use. Others, of course, I have heard used -- the more obvious ones.

I have a gay friend (well, I have many, but only one I often converse with). I think the next time we talk, I'll see how he likes "Curry Queen." He'll probably add it to his email sig line. :p

When I have a bit of time, I'm certainly looking up the Calamus poems in Whitman's Leaves of Grass.

I have a gay male aquaintance that likes to call jailbait twinks (hangs out at a lot of conventions, sees a lot of young gay boys) 'fruit snacks'.

I guffawed.

That list is making me want to write some really off-the-wall GM story in which the main character is constantly plagued by a metaphor-spewing moron . . .

"Hey rimadonna, how's life riding the other bus? Received any swollen goods lately?"

. . . who would wind up, of course, being a self-loathing closet homosexual.

I'm actually betting that the author found a lot of them in old literature rather than from personal experience. Like "Molly Mop" which is a 19th century term. Or maybe both?

I thought is was "Dolly Mop" or does mine refer to female prostitutes and yours to male?

Also, I'm gonna claim sexism-- look how few words for lesbians there are, compared with all the terms for men! :D

The list jumbles together perjoratives with self-descriptions. Does the compiler know the difference, i wonder?
