1st approval

My first submission was published on the site today. It seems to be being received very kindly. I was a little concerned that it wasn't racy/graphic/explicit enough for the site as a whole and thought I'd dropped it in the wrong category. So I do have a general category question. Specifically, this story went into Erotic Couplings, but it wasn't a wild sexcapade, I started thinking I should have dropped it in Romance. What's the consensus about the categories in general?

EC is a bit of a catch all so not only does a lot "fit" in there, the readership is more forgiving than most.

Not having read your story, I would say Romance would have been better IF it was heavily weighted towards Romance. (build up, emotional bonding, etc)

EC should do you fine even if it might have better fit in Romance.

If there's another option, it's typically a better option than Erotic Couplings. Because it's a catch-all category, readers never know what they're going to get, and they'll often only take the gamble on a recognized name or an especially enticing title/description.

Well, Loving Wives isn't a better option. *laugh* But otherwise, you'll usually get more reads in other categories, and almost certainly find a better target audience.

If the story focuses on the relationship and is sex-lite, Romance may very well be the better choice. The readers there don't mind sex-lite and a good enough story will let you get away with virtually no sex at all.

I see what both of you are saying. I took look at the number of submissions and EC has by far the most. I'll have to keep that in mind going forward.

I'd recommend Romance because it has far more readers.

When you write a story, the goal afterwards is to have read by as many people as possible, in my opinion at least.

This has always been a pet peeve of mine, since way back when i saw my first XXX film. Why can't a film, story, statue, etc. be beautiful and DIRTY. After all, we do very dirty things with the ones we love. So, yes, Romance and fucking! I have found i my 30 year relationship that the more romantic I am with my woman, the more she wants to fuck and suck! I try to make my stories a blend of romance and smut. I don't think there is a category for that.

Yes there is...well not in the some of the readers of the category, but there is love in loving wives and depends on the perspective presented. And that's all I'm saying on the subject.

Not a specific category, but those kind of stories generate good response in many categories. You just need to target the "dirty" part to the right category, and let the characters have all the romance they want along the way.
