Suggestion

My retired stepfather lays in bed and smokes cigarettes and watches television from sun rise to sun down. He only leaves the house about once a week or so, usually to get food and cigarettes. He is also about 100 lbs overweight and constantly gouges himself with food.

I have never seen someone smoke so many cigarettes before in my life. He is 60 years old and he has been smoking every single day since he was 18.

Get him a smoke alarm.
Self defence.
So you can get out before the house burns down.
