Doctor Who

LOVE IT!!!!! I've thought about getting a tat in that spot. But then I'd have the annoying job of covering it up for work. :p Still might do it someday. Very cute!!
I love it!! I wish i would have put it some where else so i could see it all the time, but Love The idea of my hidden tattoo, makes me feel a tid bit sexier!

Is it your first tattoo? I have one on my calf so it's easy to hide. But I definitely want another one. They are addicting!!! :D

Rose Tyler - ergh - she irritated the piss out of me.

Favourite episode was "The Doctor's Wife" but then it was written by Neil Gaimen and Helena Bonham Carter in it. Not sure how they managed to swing that combo, but it was brilliant.

And I like the 'Doctor Donna' character. She was one of the first companions to ever put the Doctor back in his place and make him pull his head in.

The Ponds were interesting, but I thought the writing was too geared towards making the "companions" the focus and a lot of the plot had holes you could drive a bus though.

Clara was my favourite. The writing for that season wasn't the best. But it was entertaining.

As for the Doctors...I can't pick a favourite. They all had something to bring to the role. Even poor Matt Smith having to cope with some terrible writing did a great job.

The Silence give me the absolute creeps. There was a double feature at a cinema and one of the audience members came in full costume as one of The Silence. I jumped a mile when I turned around and saw it sitting just a few rows back.

And bonus! the Doctor Who symphony is coming to where I live next year. Hells to the yeah. Already have tickets.
The companion focus making them the hero rather than the Doctor was a problem that started with Marha Jones in the two part final of the 3rd season It contiued with Donna making her the heroine in the 4th season.

Its one thing to have a companion have a greater role when that companion is exceptional in ability: Romana, Leela or the Brigadier

But Donna was one of the least talented and intelligent companions in the shows history (In a notdl Alzarian's words: Mindless impatient and bossy) and although Martha was the best of new Who she was no Liz Shaw

No I have one on each wrist. There was no pain, it was just kind of uncomfortable positiin to stay in and so LOUD!! I'm wanting to do something Sherlock behind my other ear, but all I can figure out is 221b and I want something cooler.

I'm getting a jar of flowers on my calf soon! I can't wait, they will be for my grandma and her sister.

I completely missed this comment!

What did you this of Martha? Can you call River a companion? I realy enjoyed River and the Ponds, untill the show went from Doctor Who to the Amelia Pond show to the River Song show. I think there were huge plot holes, but the more you rewatch the older atuff, you figure out Moffat had these iseas for YEARS! It's crazy!

Martha didn't make much of an impression either way. She seemed like filler until the next companion.

And yeah, it's odd watching back episodes and realising a lot of this stuff has been a long time coming.

Can't wait to see how they get to the war, and the glimpse of the next Doctor we saw in "The Name of the Doctor".

Ooooo Oooo There's a Doctor Who pop up store opening today down the road from my place. WOOT WOOT!!

In answer to your question, I think to be a companion you have to be in three straight epsiodes.

So no I don't consider River Song or Captain Jack companions

Ok, let me ask this: Do you consider River Song a Companion, or a COMPANION?

Since she was the Doctor's Love, and married him, I consider her more than just a regular Companion, since she knew him so well.

Oh, and, no, Captain Jack was not officially a Companion. He was added to the mix to build back story for Torchwood. He was a damn likeable guy, though!

I consider a Riversong one of the most overated creations in DW history

So, you think they tried to jump the shark? To change the formula, to tie the great vision all together in a pretty package?
I do, but I think Davies and Moffat had no respect for the history of DW and the timeline( i know not best word)

the Time War was a good example, the Daleks were never as scientifcly advanced as Gallifrey and the DR if he was the one never had the avbility to lock Gallifrey out of the time stream.

Finaly he keeps saying he was the last of the Time Lords, hello Romana, Kappo, Drax, The Rani

*bows* well said

Anyone else have a problem how they are ignoring or minimizing the Classic Who during the 50th annivesary?

they have a feature the Woman of DR Who- and they are making the case the New Who Woman are more comptent. Please youhave losers like Donna, amy Pond and Rose (sorry they are not people to admire) as opposed to scientists Liz Shaw and zoe, investgator report Sarah Jane Smith, warrior Leela and Triple First Romana

They had some great episodes but they overstayed their welcome by a large margin. And their final episode had all the conditions in place for being great, yet they broke the prime directive of intelligent television: Never let smart characters act stupid in order to facilitate a plot. The Ponds deserved a better and more spectacular send-off.

I am a Who snob and I shake my head at people who think it only started with Ecclston. :)

My favourites were Pertwee, Davidson and Tennant.

But it did. Eccleston took the Doctor from the DOS age to the Windows age and as such his reign - though short - was one of the most significant periods in the Who lore.

Hey, I'm as nostalgic about classic Who as the next guy and I agree that Pertwee is awesome. But the time when you could make a cyberman out of plumbing supplies from your nearest hardware store and have people excited when he chased the Doctor over piece of grass-land is long gone.

Without modern production values and retconning of the Doctor into the more complex character introduced by Eccleston the show would never have gained an audience outside the demographic of UK geeks over 40.

I think you are short shanging the guy with the scarf. Tom Baker made DR Who the international phenomonon. Yes the special effects are much better than they were in Classic.

But thats it.
It like saying the Abrams Star Trek is better than the original because of the special effects or the second star Wars trilogy was better than the original for the same reason.

All the doctors contributed to evolving the show and Tom Baker probably more than anybody else - he played the part for a decade or so and wore the coolest scarfs. But it was a different time and the bar was a lot lower. Imagine "Robot" premiering today...

It is definitely better than the original - and not just because of the special effects. The acting and direction is much improved as well. In fact, you don't even have to go this far forward in time. Just compare Bill Shatner's performance with Patrick Stewart's...

I'll take Robot over Rose or the Runaway Bride
But compare Geneisis of the Daleks, Deadly Assasin or the E Space Trilogy to anything in New Who

As far William Shatner who has had a major career I was comparing the Classic original series to the Abrams version. And sorry the acting and stories are far superior to the incredibly over rated Abrams

You're sure it's not nostalgia speaking?

It's like veteran cars - they're charming but functionally inferior to even the crappiest modern vehicle.

Btw. you can't compare the Abrams movie to one of the series - in that case you need to look at one of the movies featuring the old cast.

The fair comparison to TOS would be TNG, DS9, Voyager or Enterprise - all of which are superior in acting, production and writing. Roddenberry did well with the limited cash he had for TOS but a single episode of TNG had a budget about the size of an entire season of TOS, and it shows.
