Doctor Who

hiya :)

i admit to a nostalgic fondness for the old stuff, but that truly doesn't translate for me across time to the new ones. if i didn't like the new material, i'd stop watching it in a blink. ecclestone completely broke (for me) those old bonds (and disappointments!), making it modern, fun, and simply entertaining.

i'll leave some of the americans to their shouty wrestlers and honey booboo or whatever the crap it's called. each to their own. weirdos.

Ecclestone was good, but he only had what? One season? 13 episodes or some such. I didn't watch prior to the Ninth Doctor. I wasn't really all that interested.

For shame, badmouthing The Big Bang Theory. Not to mention lumping it in with the Kardashians..

Don't mind Vatican Assassin, he wouldn't know a good television program if one fell on his flat head. ;)

Hello all! This thread is a place for Whovians to come and discuss Doctor Who.
Well as I can state my DR oppinions here without being barred like the DR Who fan clubs on yahoo and other sites:

Classic Who > New Who
Donna Who is the worst companion of all time
Russell Davies did not know what he is doing.
Matt Smith was a disaster as the DR

Hey up! I love the old Tom Baker/Davros era, that was the one I grew up with. I watched some of Tennant for the perve factor and I did like his version of the Doctor, stopped watching when he left though. Also I do think the effects and story lines are more geared up to younger audiences so it's not my cuppa tea these days.

Best theme tune ever though.

i remember patrick troughton with fondness, but baker and that scarf made it for me back then.

and, yeah, the writing has definitely altered - not in a good way. feels like they're writing for an american audience a lot of the time, which doesn't sit so well with british humour (and makes it feel more child-orientated).

yeah, just the one season. enough to bring it, with russel t davis, kicking and screaming into the 21st century. the older stuff wasn't worth watching. hadn't been for years before it fell off the screen and into oblivion.

TBBT is one programme ALL of us like at home (well, apart from dr who). we sit there giggling through it like twerps.

there're producers out there delighted he likes their stuff, i'm convinced.

I preferred David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor personally, although the Eleventh Doctor is growing on me.

I much preferred Rose Tyler to Amelia Pond as far as companions go.
River Song is simply awesome.
Amy Pond? Saw nothing likeable about her.

River Song would get eatan for breakfast by Romana (the only companion who was an equal to the DR)

Rose was good to loook at. Billie Piper can act, but the character was boring.

everyone's entitled to their opinions, and everyone's entitled to disagree with yours :D

I can only assume it meant Donna Noble.

But yeah, it's pretty much a given that any sane person should disagree with Jen / dazzle..

that girl had the ability to move me to tears of laughter and tears of sorrow in a way i'm not accustomed to, watching dr who! my fave funny scene has to be the classic mime sequence from partners in crime. funniest thing i'd seen in a long time.

Best Doctor - Tom Baker
Best Companion Romana 2
Best episode Deadly Assasin
Best Season Tom Baker's last
Best Regneration Scene tie: David Tenanat and Tom Baker
Best Monster- The Daleks
Best multiple Doctor episode the three Doctors

donna was the shit. not the prettiest, but who the fuck cares? she was the best of the new series. easily.

and damn right the writing is disappointing since davies left. they need to fix that. it's starting to piss me off. the last series was hit or miss at best. there were more than a few episodes i only kept watching because the new girl is cute and that won't cut it for very long. stephen, don't make me quit this show, goddamnit. i will fuck you up.

also, i'm still hoping the new guy won't suck.

and shut up, asshole. no one cares.

Rose Tyler - ergh - she irritated the piss out of me.

Favourite episode was "The Doctor's Wife" but then it was written by Neil Gaimen and Helena Bonham Carter in it. Not sure how they managed to swing that combo, but it was brilliant.

And I like the 'Doctor Donna' character. She was one of the first companions to ever put the Doctor back in his place and make him pull his head in.

The Ponds were interesting, but I thought the writing was too geared towards making the "companions" the focus and a lot of the plot had holes you could drive a bus though.

Clara was my favourite. The writing for that season wasn't the best. But it was entertaining.

As for the Doctors...I can't pick a favourite. They all had something to bring to the role. Even poor Matt Smith having to cope with some terrible writing did a great job.

The Silence give me the absolute creeps. There was a double feature at a cinema and one of the audience members came in full costume as one of The Silence. I jumped a mile when I turned around and saw it sitting just a few rows back.

And bonus! the Doctor Who symphony is coming to where I live next year. Hells to the yeah. Already have tickets.

Haha. I agree Donna was the shit. I never really got on the Amy wagon. ;) Seriously, like the day before her wedding wasn't she trying to make out with the Doctor?! Rory was awesome.

Favorite doctor would be a toss up between Tennant & Eccleston. I never watched the classics so Eccleston was my first and you can never forget your first! ;) And David was ... weeeelllll .... David. lol (and if you didn't hear the weeeelll in David's voice then there's something wrong with you!)

There are probably people who'd be willing to make you a replica TARDIS.

How cool would it be to have a phone box sticking out of your wall, only to open it up and find an entire TARDIS control room behind the doors?

With the right architect and engineer, I reckon it's totally doable in your own home.

I am a Who snob and I shake my head at people who think it only started with Ecclston. :)

My favourites were Pertwee, Davidson and Tennant.
