How do you come up with a story to go with the sex?

I know what type of sex I want in the story I want to write, but I am having a really hard time figuring out how to have it be more than just the sex. I want it to focus around anonymous/unattached sex and escalate to crazier and crazier situations, but I have no idea how a plot can be made of this.

Do you just add some arbitrary "non-sex" plot to your story or what?

If your character does sexual things because she likes them, how does that have anything to do with your plot?

The Obvious question is, "how does your protagonist meet and/or choose the next partner(s)?"

Start your sex scenes with where and how each partner is met and chosen; that's really all the plot your premise seems to need. Start a little earlier in your protagonist's day if you need more plot. Include more of the events and emotions leading up to the sex as required to convert/connect your sex vignette into a story.

It's like using violence or any other aspect of human behavior. Approach your story like you're telling a non-erotic story--what piques your interest as a consumer of stories? Write such a story--and make the sex an expression of the characters' personalities and goals.

This is what I have been thinking/reading, that if you take out the sex then the story should still be good.

The issue that I'm having though, is that the character is driven to experience more and more sexual things and that is the plot. So if you take that out, what else is she doing. Or if you compare it to a non-sexual story that progresses in intensity, they would usually end with some big revelation or victory/defeat. I can think of how the story would work with a defeat (something bad happens because of all this crazy sex like she gets raped/pregnant/diseases) but not how it would work with her somehow triumphing, and I don't want an unhappy ending

It almost sounds like an addiction story. Many of those in real life end in tragedy, but a few end happily through the intervention of friends, family or a 12 step program's mentoring.

Perhaps your protagonist will hit rock bottom and finds a guardian angel -- who demonstrates the difference between "making love" and "having sex?" Perhaps she makes her fortune in a brothel because she'll do thing the others balk at?

Then again, this is Literotica and a never-ending series about a Nymphomaniac in search of new thrills can work.

I think about the story in reverse, if I already know what kind of sex scene I want.

What I mean is this:

If I want to write a story about an "office slut" which features an ambitious young woman (early 20's) who's willing to do whatever it takes to climb the corporate ladder, then I think about what sets it up.

So I start off thinking, why would she do it? What's her motivation? Who are the men doing it to her? ect...

Just keep asking questions.

It makes sense that she's ambitious, and there's more motivation that she doesn't want to loose her job. She won't be able to afford her apartment if she losses her job. So she accepts the sexual advancements made towards her. I also thought it made sense to have other characters for the lead female character to interact with, so her feelings can be shown.

So with a story like this, start by asking who the female character is (because people care more about the female character).

To me, it makes sense that she's a career woman. She has no time to date. Perhaps she's young and fresh out of college. Smart and amitious, but of course she has sexual feelings and needs a release from work. She meets a guy online somehow and they shared sexual interest. ect...

There a lot of stories you can tell that feature a character who compulsively has sex for story or character-based reasons. Suggestions:

1) A story about coping/failing to cope with an abusive upbringing.

2) Narratives about people struggling with mental illness.

3) A story about someone coping with a background featuring sexual repression.

4) Men/women-in-prison fantasy narratives. He/she went in fearing being passed around by the guards and inmates, but finds it to be alarmingly thrilling.

5) Stories about a person being pulled into the sex/porn trade by circumstance and finding he/she enjoys it.

6) A typical coming of age story, where one of the areas of self-realization is that the character coming of age is a slut.

She tries to fight her needs. One night she's on facebook, she gets a message from a guy who met her at a party. They chat. It eventually grows. They realize they have similar interest. ect...

OK. But the story needs a beginning. What set your character off on this track? There's the start of your story - although it doesn't have to be in the first paragraph. What is it that she gets out of these anonymous encounters, these 'zipless fucks'? (If possible, show us rather than tell us.) Why does she keep going back for more?

And if you don't want an unhappy ending, then maybe she's going to have to start having doubts. That was good; but is it really what I want? And maybe she reaches a point where the the thrill is gone. But then what? Struggle. Conflict. And then maybe tentative salvation. And a potentially happy ending. But keep in mind that she has to remain in character; the change can't just 'happen', there has to be a reason.

Well, drug addiction stories end with either tragedy (character didnt beat the addiction) or success in breaking it. I don't want my character to stop wanting the kind of sex she wants because I don't want the moral to be that it was bad.

In this situation, I think the question is: what was the catalytic event that started everything? Is it blackmail, a series of dares, a repressed wife who discovers sex outside marriage, a repressed wife whose husband is desperately trying to keep her interest, her evolving sex life over the course of several years? When you hear if the gal who got caught being made airtight and one of the penises was a dildo being worn by a woman, you wonder... How did she get from virgin to public access amusement park ride?

Perhaps drug addiction was a bad comparison, considering the outcome you're looking for. Maybe Gambling or tobacco addiction is closer -- gambling addicts can come to an accommodation with their addiction that allows them to gamble without impoverishing themselves.

A never-ending series about a nymphomaniac or party-girl sounds like the best solution.

Nope. If plot is arbitrary, you might as well not have it.

How does the sex affect the rest of her life? Does she bump into one of these people at work? Does she feel guilt/shame for having anonymous sex and if so, what does she do about it? What happens if she starts developing feelings for one of her conquests, but doesn't want to give up her lifestyle?

Why is she addicted? What happened to her to drive her to this? Give her a good back story. That will make it more believable. (Just be careful if she's under 18 in the events in the backstory.)

Bad things will probably happen to her, but that doesn't have to be the end of the story.
