I guess our first question is.....do most dd/lg couples do a contract like I have seen d/s do?

The last Dd/llg relationship I had was one where the spontaneity came from code words. We knew when the other was in the mood to play instead of coming out and dragging a folder of documents saying :"I think I want to change this for this session".
Although having documents makes you think your relationship out to the nitty gritty.

If you feel like a contract would make it easier for you to be clear on what is expected of you, then draft one. There's no one-size-fits-all in bdsm.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of Dd/lg couples. I know that I was afraid to tell my Dd about how I felt but we both realised that we had been living in the dynamic just about our while relationship.

While it might seem like there aren't many couples like you, I think there are. But, because everybody is different with specific preferences in what they feel comfortable with, they might not relate exactly as you do with your daddy.
I'm not into the daddy/little girl aspect of play, but that doesn't mean it isn't a popular thing. Some like to add age play into the mix, and I'm not into that, either. I just like to dom women and dom them in my way. I guess in some ways, I could be considered kind of vanilla, when you think of all of the different kinds of relationships that are out there.
I've seen where women relate to their male partner as daddy, but they don't use the same DD/lg descriptor that you do. They might not even realize the similarity in their connection, because they use D/s for their particular connection.
It's just how life is, I guess. You think you are different until you meet others that are so much like you. We don't often talk about our sexual desires to strangers.
