A war over a 2% tax? Well that's not what happened, at all for starters. I'm curious what liberty you think we're losing though.

The Revolutionary War started based on "taxation without representation" was over a rate under 2%.

The without representation part was rather important however. All British citizens at the time had the right to representation. Except us mostly cus planes and phones were still a little ways out. Had they given us a seat at the table things likely would have gone differently.

It mostly had to do with the fact that there was a huge ocean between us and that the navy can't actually come inland. India figured that out as well.

It might have been delayed, but I doubt it would have gone very differently ultimately.

"Seat at the table" isn't as good as "This is my table."

No way of knowing for sure but I suspect it would have gone much differently. We likely have (in the short run) been better off sticking with them.

In which way? We share a language, we have shared an excellent relationship with some fairly good natured teasing about spelling. For nations at war historically we've done well. I don't know what in the short term would have been better, what's your theory there?

My theory is that we would have had access to the greatest military the world had known up until that point, we'd still have Canada as part of the family and that's just to start with.
