I believe I know what SL is.
Oh really? Did you spend some time there too?

OK everyone, I'm out for a little while. I'm off from work again today and I get to spend it with my daughter. Have to do some chores first but later we're heading out to the park for some fun. Take care and hope everyone has a great day!

Lit is like walking a field with land mines.
Never know when your step will cause an explosion.
Don't let them get to you because then they win.

... I think it's likely a generational thing. Idiots and assholes are universal.I grew up in southern AZ and it was hit or miss on how guys would act to their female "significant others". I was taught by my stepfather to respect and protect women too. Do everything that you mentioned above and I did that to the best of my ability during the 20+ years of my marriage.
I think you hit on something. Gentlemanly behavior is passed down from generation to generation. (And ladylike behavior too). It's sad that it's not being taught to lots of guys and gals.
I've done my best to teach it to my (now adult) boys. I think some of what I taught has sunk in.It's very sad that many young men and women don't know how to simply be respectful.
It's another one of my "soapbox" issues I have with our current society.
INL: I'm enjoying Texas, btw..not a fan of how large Houston is, but the suburbs are plenty "urban" for my tastes. My sister will turn me into a socialite...I feel like a train off her tracks..Breakfast meeting... brunch..Dinner drinks.. Holy Shizzy....
On the up side I might have that job!!! yeah!!!
My one comment on the gentlemen vs jerks: Doesn't matter. It depends on how you were raised, not where. It's all about a man knowing when to turn his gentleman swag off and put on a slightly different air..I like to think Daddy knows how to do that.
I think we might share a soapbox on that issue. Not only do I teach my kiddo how to act like a lady but also what she should expect from a gentleman. She rolls her eyes.....![]()
He's inbetween. A very sweet man, sometimes holds doors etc...if I'm not well. Anyone broke into our house and he'd probably protect them from me hehe.
"Sounds like the SO - about half the time I get the car door opened for me - the other half I probably have opened it myself and climbed in/out before he could get there if he wanted to - he's extremely thoughtful (unless you like being given flowers) and yes, he'd probably be tempted to protect any intruder from me and my baseball bat (and other assorted weaponry) - he's the best in my book."
"Happy belated 4th everyone and Happy Friday to ALL - Daddies and Baby Girls! Interview went WELL! I am being recommended for any of three different positions and we discussed salaries (in addition to numerous other things - interview lasted about 45 minutes) and they've already sent me the benefits package as well. Told them I currently expect to be able to start after Sept 1st (when my Office Manager/friend/co-worker gets back from maternity leave) and now I just have to get rid of the house...."
No one should have to walk through a thread tip toeing over eggshells either. Threads like this one are supposed to be inclusive, not divisive.
Everyone loses when things turn ugly. Apologies to all for contributing to the dust up.
Oh so true. We learn what we are taught and mimic what we see. If you grew up in a respectful house, that's the walk you live...
Agreed again. Too bad it's not more prevalent. Being gentle and kind, protective and supportive, respectful and pleasant is just too easy. And the rewards are endless.
You are wise grasshopper... Lord knows, we could use a little more civility and respect in the world today.
Happy to hear you are enjoying your time in Houston. Hot and humid there this time of year, but that city has so much energy. Like everywhere, it has it's good places and bad places...
Socialite you say? Sounds like my life in sales. It takes a while to get used to the pace but once you do, you will love it. Trust me.I call it schmoozing. Ladies call it socializing. No matter what you call it, it puts you in touch with tons of folks. If you like meeting new people...
And good luck on the job!!! We'll keep our fingers crossed for you.
Keep after it girl! You're going to end up raising a fine young woman that won't settle for anything less than what she deserves. A proper gentleman...
I am sorry.
I was not talking about you, just Lit in general.

There's my sweet Princess! But I like spoiling you, err well loving you!
After catching up, there is one question I need answered. (I googled it too) Why don't Texans remove there cowboy hats indoors? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Let's be tolerate and not lump all hat wearing Texans together.Plenty we could say about MN, don'tchaknow?
I am curious why some men in general, regardless of location, feel this is okay. Same when the Anthem is being played or a number of other activities where I was taught it was unacceptable.
Rj & Incog, I'm very proud of you two for working it out.![]()
