American Union members showed Hostess

cracks me up

Hostess Brands is Closed.
We are sorry to announce that Hostess Brands, Inc. has been forced by a Bakers Union strike to shut down all operations and sell all company assets. For more information, go to hostessbrands.info. Thank you for all of your loyalty and support over the years.

Good for them. They stuck it to corrupt management, once and for all - and at the cost of their jobs. In my book, they're heroes.

Sometimes the only way dogs understand something is if you hit them in the nose with a newspaper.

you're sick

My turn

It took me a while to get through all of the posts (because, as a small business owner, I can't sit infront of m computer reading this for hours on end)..and here's my take:

Unions that use strongarm tactics need to be stopped. Not all unions resort to such tactics and a good number still perform a necessary function to keep workers safe.

Workers who CHOOSE to join a union accept the liability that comes from that commitment and the risks invovled when the union decides to strike

If you don't like the company you work for, look for another job. Seek out a better education, work your ass off, PROVE that you deserve a better job. There are plenty of opportunities for people to create a better life for themselves and if you really need it, I can find you hundreds of stories of people who've done just that. But every one of those stories has at it's heart a person who busted their ass to get where they are, who actively sought opportunities to better themselves, to earn respect, to learn skills and talents that would move them out of poverty. Where there is a will, there's a way.

Lastly, Walmart survives (and thrives) because they sell cheap shit for cheap. There is NO WAY American manufacturing can compete with overseas companies for most mass-produced goods when the labor cost in other countries is far below what it is in the US. "Buy American" is a great slogan..but unrealistic, unless you really want to pay $1500 for that iPhone or $300 for that bottom-end blu-ray player. Look around at all the things you own and seriously consider if you'd be willing to pay 4 or 5 times more for those things, because that's the reality of it.

Are there US companies where the executives are not making 400x the pay of their lowest paid employee? Find out and buy from them, if you truly want to make a difference. Look at Costco if you want to see an example of a company where the workers are paid more because they're valued more and the president makes less than he could, because he wants to pay his people what they're worth.

If you don't like the country you live in, look for another residence.

But there are so few where you can openly bitch about the government without repercussions. Honestly, how many truly free nations are there where Free Speech is protected? To quote Jack Nicholson from "A Few Good Men":

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

Yeah, folks like you always quote that character.

It's funny how you all conveniently forget his actions broke the law, compromised the integrity of the armed forces, and got a young man killed.

Folks like me...

First off, I like that quote for what it stands for....but I agree that the character got what he deserved in the end because of what he did.

Let me clarify. I love this country and believe it is the greatest in the world. By no means is it perfect, though. We have problems and issues that need to be addressed, period.

And as for "folks like me"..let me guess, you've never served a day in the military. I like that quote because I have stood on that wall...I gave 23 years of my life in service to my country. But..only 1% of the population are "folks like me"...and I'm happy for that.

Just because you served in the military doesn't make you any more special than the single mom that works 3 jobs. That is why losers are losers...they think they are more important than they are.

Nope. But, as an intellectual, I've suffered through years and years of dumbassery from one coast to the other. It's a type of war.

As for your service, congrats. You chose to do a job, you did it, and you got paid.

I never said it made me any more "special". I did it so that single mom COULD work 3 jobs. And that people like you can come here and bitch freely. You're welcome.

You did nothing for me.

Nothing.

Never forget that.

No, I chose to serve. It wasn't a "job", it was a profession and a calling. It required an oath and a promise to lay down my life, if necessary, to protect the freedom of the citizens of this country. It's called the "unlimited liability clause" and it's something that most people aren't willing to commit to, which is why only 1% of the population ever serve in the military. But, without that 1%, there would be no freedom.

I did that when I was 20, 4 years in the Navy then when reinlistment time came up I did not sign.

Yes and no. For you personally...no I didn't. For you as a fellow American, so you can enjoy the freedom you so readily exercise every day...yeah...my fellow veterans and I did....starting in 1776 and continuing to this day, to fight and die so you can be an ungrateful bastard. The irony is that you'll never understand it.

Political correctness? Really? :)

(It was a job.)

Isn't it cute, the sort of propaganda they pump `em with before they hand them a gun?

Thank you for your service. You did more than most. It doesn't matter that you didn't make a career out of it. Not everyone can or will. But you chose to serve, and I suspect you would have honored your unlimited liability clause, if it had been necessary.

Why should I thank you? Your sense of entitlement is a disgrace to the uniform and to those that have laid down the ultimate sacrifice.

You really are clueless when it comes to understanding how your freedom continues to exist, aren't you. Will wonders never cease?

I never asked you to thank me. I don't expect it and don't desire it. The only thing I'm entitled to is my opinion and the freedom to express it, which I'm very thankful to have because of the men and women who have paid that sacrifice.

Besides...my comment was directed at a specific individual...why are you so bent out of shape?

A friend of mine who served put it perfectly once: "No soldier who says `you're welcome' to civilians ever understood what they were fighting for in the first place'.

You can re-read that sentiment over and over; I can already tell you don't have a chance in hell of getting what it means. So, go back to putting bumper stickers on your car/truck and telling everyone you served while pretending you don't want some magic key to the city for having done so.
