American Union members showed Hostess

From my thread, "Farewell Ron Paul."

With a Union yell, they cried MO MO MO!!!

"Hostess Brands, the maker of Wonder Bread and Twinkies, said in a court filing that it will wind down operations and sell its assets after a fight with labor unions."

Having lived in Emporia, they are not going to find a lot of Union Bakery jobs.

Having built part of that plant, they are not even baking. They are running baking machines. Any fucking idiot can do it. Our construction tools required more training and skill as well as being able to perform an astounding variety of tasks...

QUOTE:

“We deeply regret the necessity of today’s decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike,” Chief Executive Officer Gregory F. Rayburn said in a statement. “Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders.”

The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union went on strike Nov. 9 after a bankruptcy judge in White Plains, New York, imposed contract concessions that 92 percent of the union’s workers rejected.

Hostess closed three of its 36 plants permanently Nov. 12, blaming the strike. Hostess said it determined last night that not enough employees had returned to work to restore normal operations. The wind-down will close the remaining 33 bakeries and 565 distribution centers, Hostess said.

If Hostess couldn't get by without reducing employee compensation by one-third (after reducing it twice already since 2004) it should definitely close up shop.

Their products are shitty and they've been losing market share forever. They have nothing on deck to appeal to consumers either (moar Twinkies?). They shouldn't exist.

Where are you getting that 1/3 number?

It was reported over at dallasnews.com that the wage concessions and benefit reductions were 27%-32%. 8% of that was in wages and the rest by stripping the healthcare and retirement plans.

Thanks. I only saw the 8% in wages.

Personally I think we are going to see a lot more of this kind of stuff because the union model is unsustainable from a benefits perspective.

Employer healthcare model is unsustainable and an antiquated concept.

So is burlesque but I still attend performances regularly.

A bit insensitive, no? These people don't deserve employment because you don't enjoy their products?

Let them eat (Drake's coffee) cake!

Can not wait to see what Wal-Mart does to the fuck head employees in California that plan a black Friday walk out. Hopefully it is along the lines of what they did to the butchers who tried to unionize....

No one wants VOLTS

But they still are being made

at a LOSS of $50K per car

GM is gonna go BK again

You OK with that

RIGHT?

What are they protesting about? Getting up early?

I'm not saying they don't deserve employment at all. I'm just acknowledging that a company that hasn't made a popular product in 25 years is going to get its ass handed to it in the free market. Conservatives are walking around with their little hard-ons, blaming unions while ignoring the fact that this is nothing more than the result of capitalism. If the unions took the deal (which would be their fourth concession) and Hostess became (barely) solvent, they'd just keep losing market share and be bankrupt again in four years. If the union dissolved or never existed Hostess would still be selling less Wonderbread every year.

Yeah as a former GM investor I was okay with Volts being sold at a loss and I still am.

Toyota sold Priuses at a loss for years and just recently started making a small profit on them. Should Priuses not exist?

Burlesque is alive and well in NYC. Some would say thriving.

Wonder what the county fairs are going to do. One of the biggest sellers was deep fried Twinkees. Doesn't that sound healthy. Someone thought, hey aren't twinkees bad for you? Well then, let's deep fry them.
