How did you feel about the auto bailout?

I was curious about the same thing. Had the auto companies gone bankrupt (which is, in essence, what Hostess is doing, the auto companies workers would have lost their jobs as well.

I do agree with Mercury than when products are made that people do not want, either evolve or the business goes under. Should have happened to the auto industry as well. The auto companies that could do well would have probably grown, and possibly absorbing the employees who lost their previous jobs.

I imagine any change would be hard on Americans where it pertains to healthcare. Everybody wants it but they don't really know what exactly it is that they want.

Okay, so the new healthcare law isn't perfect…but the old way wasn't working.

Regardless of what our nation goes forward with, it's going to cost. The problem is, no one wants to pay. In the news yesterday I read that a Florida Denny's manager posted a sign that he was adding 5% to bills because of ObamaCare. Ridiculous, but it was bound to happen and it's going to get worse.

well said. Health Insurance was for the big things, now American's want free birth control/Viagra, band-aides, and otc stuff to be covered by "insurance"

also, the same ass-hats are in control and nothing is going to change with ObamaCare, this is the next government clusterfuck waiting to implode. ObamaCare might have delayed the health care crisis by a couple of years.

I guess you are right. It seems it all depends on who is shutting down....if it is government supported, then it is good for the country.....if private business, the owners are evil people.

Maybe, umm, the business is not in good health, perhaps the management fucked up and were not as good as they thought. It's easier for businesses to cry "Unions! Healthcare! Benefits!" than to blame themselves for poor business decisions. Um, if your business is in such a bad shape that you "need" your workers to take cuts, giving your top officials raises and bonuses is NOT a good thing to do.

While I agree that giving top officials raises and bonuses was not a good thing to do, the difference in the amount of money spent on that as compared to pension and benefit reforms is simply unsustainable.

I bet you, that we will see states like CA, IL, NY file for bankruptcy protection due to the massive overly compensated pension liabilities and rightfully so. they should either shut down these programs or offer members .05 to .10 on the dollar on this ponzi scheme

NY's had problems with pensions. Not due to high costs, but due to unregulated and unfettered Wall Street arrogance. And, because of comptrollers, from both parties, have wasted/stole/mismanaged the funds.

Do I see too much compensation from unionized state employees? Yes. Do I see far more compensation for state management and government? YES!!
