I've long wondered why the Seante now and then manage to elect Independents, but the House haven't in at least a long time.Something interesting about the "mandate" and the Republican control of the house. 53,952,240 votes were cast for a Democratic candidate for the House and only 53,402,643 were cast for a Republican — meaning that Democratic votes exceed Republican votes by more than half a million nationwide.
But when you look at the gerrymandering in the republican controlled state legislatures it accounts for a lot of their ability to hold the House. Don't get me wrong, Dems do it to and it is what it is.
But when it comes to looking at what the majority want it does add to the credence of their being a mandate for President Obama continuing his course of policies and against the obstructionism of the Republicans.
Th GOP is going to have to consider playing ball or risk losing their slim hold.
It just occurred to me that gerrymandering is probably the reason. Every district too skewed to a particular party.
