Obama's Mandate

SS, Medicare cuts for everyone under 45. Let them have 401K type plans. Agency cuts. Streamline income taxes so that Americans and business don't have to spend billions upon billions on compliance, Cut regulations, create a friendly business environment, it means more revenue for government. We have to defend the nation. Drop the Education Department, drop the Energy Department, drop the Department of Agriculture, for openers.

Love that idea of the Education Department going away!!!

I've heard this all before. SS and Medicare should NEVER EVER EVER I repeat EVER be put into the hands of the people. My God, the voucher crap talk needs to END.

Business friendly, for whom? Corporations are making record profits, small businesses are coming back. What do you want, ZERO corporate tax?

Explain the reasonings behind dropping Education, Energy and Agriculture, I'm interested. As the son/grandson of farmers, I'm very interested in the Ag.

Let me throw something out here.

Medicare part D.

It's hellishly expensive.

One of the reasons it is so expensive is because by law (emphasis added) Medicare is prohibited from negotiating discounts on prescription drugs. By law, they must pay full retail price of whatever Big Pharma decrees.

Compare that law with the Veterans Administration appropriations bill, which actually encourages the Federal government to negotiate discounts with Big Pharma.

The result?

The VA pays $780 per year for a year's supply of Lipitor.
Medicare pays a minimum of $1120 to a maximum of $1340 for the same drug.

Changing the law to permit the Federal government to negotiate discounts could save us a minimum of 10% of the Medicare D budget, I suspect. Probably much higher.

Thoughts?

Just curious....how in the world did anyone live, work, have a family, succeed in this world before all of these government programs were enacted? I think there are many many people who greatly underestimate the American spirit. Give people a chance, they just might surprise you on how they can make their lives work without ANY government interference.

Cute graph. I am sure the rise in life expectancy could only be contributed to the government intruding into people's lives.

Hmm, still curious how those we know of from the bible lived to be in their hundreds. Must have had one heck of a medicare/social security/welfare system back then.

Are you a birther?

A phrase comes to mind..."by the grace of God."

Genes were purer and closer to the original source then, longer life was likely a Methuselah mutation that gradually died out. No processed foods probably helped, too.

Also, Jesus was a long-haired Socialist hippie.

Here's the same map in the form of a cartogram to represent population (you know, the people who vote, not the size of the state).
That's not helpful in seeing who voted for whom, as it's by State. Ohio, for example, is all blue, although almost half the people there voted for Romney.

1870 - Louis Pasteur established the germ theory of disease. It's been uphill ever since.

It's pretty much a fact, even in the south that if you live in a city you vote Democrat, if you don't you vote Republican. There are of course exceptions but the rule is solid enough to place bets that nobody should take on.

For the most part, they lived in poverty.

It's interesting to note that life expectancy increased more rapidly between 1880 and 1930, when there was no income tax and no Social Security, than it did between 1950 and 1990.

That's not a fact, it's a trend.
