a question for american men

actually, this thread came about because:

aj said - women want wallet
i said - american dudes say that a lot, so either american women are different to other women or american dudes are being douchebags.
chuppy said - that ain't pc, dolf. you get gold diggers all over.
and i said - hey, i'm just making' an observation.

then we debated how the welfare state and the class system have shaped brit culture and whether that might have an impact on such things.

another observation i've made is how so many yanks take personal offence & throw a massive paddy at the slightest hint of criticism towards any part of their country or culture :)

and of course we're one of the most class conscious cultures, you muppet. you won't find many brits who won't agree with that (without throwing a tantrum about it). that's half the bloody point.

Regardless

She still failed to address factually my position.

which is when in comes to a long term commitment money has everything to do with who she chooses.

A report by Dr. Catherine Hakim released in January showed that women are choosing richer husbands, or "marrying up" more today than they did in the 1940s. And a controversial 2009 study found that while several factors affected a woman's reported enjoyment of sex, the most influential was her partner's income.

Dr. Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist at Rutgers University who has studied romantic love extensively, said studies have widely shown that women like men with resources: They have since the beginning of time because they need someone to help take care of their young.

Men with lots of fancy cars who live in the right part of town are sending an evolutionary message that they can provide. And while this study showed that the conspicuous spenders didn't have a long-term advantage, Fisher argued they weren't at a disadvantage either.

"The bottom line is when you take a look around the world, women -- if they can win over the Porsche guy -- they'd rather have the Porsche guy," Fisher said.

Just because women know the conspicuous spender is primarily looking for a fling, that doesn't mean they won't try to turn that fling into something more.

"They want the resources, so they'll think 'Maybe I can love him in the way that makes him stay long-term,'" Fisher explained.

A study Fisher helped conduct with Match.com found that a third of respondents reported having a one-night stand that turned into a long-term relationship. With those numbers in mind, he posited that women might take a chance on the Porsche guy. Just like men, women have dating strategies, and in this instance, the pay-off would be big.

"He had to really work to get that Porsche, and that's his bait, and she sees the bait," Fisher said. "She reels him in, and he thinks it's short term. She has sex with him, and he falls for her. Now her babies can ride around in a Porsche."

BOOM !!! I win. Do I get that toaster now?

here's a bit you didn't bother to cite:

According to the researchers, women found a man who chose to purchase a flashy luxury product (such as a Porsche) more desirable than the same man who purchased a non-luxury item (such as a Honda Civic). However, there was a catch: Although women found the flashy guys more desirable for a date, the man with the Porsche was not preferred as a marriage partner. Women inferred from a man's flashy spending that he was interested in uncommitted sex.

basically research in this area is flawed bullshit for the most part.

This thread separated the chaff from the wheat.

we discovered who are men and who are pandering little bitches. :D

try reading all the words in the link you posted.

I did.

Times like this I am not sure if you are being deliberately thick to twist it to your own end or if you really are completely useless.

Oh well distort the article as you wish. Have at it.

Muppet

Hakim's work is to say the least suspect. hence my assertion that research in this area is flawed. try reading more instead of wanting. :)

Maybe it is want on his part.

Perhaps VBM wants to believe women prefer men with lots of spending money. Because he pays women to keep him company.

I think it's sad, but he doesn't seem to mind, so...

women like flashy guys for sex, the 'research' proves it, so he has no problem as he's not interested in commitment.

hakim's pretty much discredited and most of the research in this area is based on quant self reporting using small samples, so it's not really of much use except for rags like the sun and daily mail.

further, you are actually citing 'research' which contradicts your position that women only want commitment from the peacocks. how do you reconcile that?

That's why I put glitter on my zipper and candy sprinkles on my cock.

There are more women that seek out men with money than men that seek out women for money. I am not going to research it but my guess is there is 5 "sugar daddy" websites for every one "sugar momma" website.

There are also plenty of woman who only feel comfortable dating in their own social/education class. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Guys below these womens class would call them gold diggers just to satisfy their own ego.

Even combined I would guess these two classes are a minority....

Bottom line is take each individual on their own merits. Trying to lump them all in one bucket is stupid.

That's because more young women like older men than young men like older women.
