A.I.R. 2012 SUMMER LOVIN’ Story Contest
SPECIAL Lifetime Achievement A.I.R.

boxlicker101

All A.I.R. members would like to thank our friend from California, the man who spends half the day eating pussy and the other half writing about it, the one and only boxy, for the retiring of the tiresome and odious pauletta. Thank you!

And we’d also like to thank SusieQ for the restraint she showed in this contest.

Certain stories were disqualified for category problems, failure to follow the theme, or other major infractions. Various authors who broke the one contest-one story rule had their entries thrown out (except for top 25 “most favorite”). Three infamous AH land ballot box stuffers (lovergirl ytcc, darkboy ALTS, and the dumbtexan) had their stories tossed for multiple infractions.

All Non-Erotic stories were disqualified as well as the thirteen stories identified by our association computers as ALT stories.

Congratulations to our winners – well done!

*Under the ASSOCIATIONS rules a story/author can only win one prize in any contest.
** Minimum numbers of votes are required to qualify in the various categories

Oh, how nice! Jim awarded a fake award to his protege Heyall. who, I hate to say it Jim, is most likely jerking your chain and laughing at you.

Do us a favor Heyall, please post here or on any contest thread when you receive your prize.

Post a pic of it for us.

We're all dying to see it.

I also received a "Special Lifetime Achievement A.I.R.," whatever that means. I appreciate recognition as much as the next smut peddler, but I'd rather get it from somebody I respect and whose name or organization means something positive.

Box, why don't you tell everyone what you won in scouries fake contest.

It is hard to get excited by something only one person votes on and he only does it to suck up. Not to mention his use of you as a pawn in his fake contest. Just like he is using every writer he lists.

You know what this reminds me of? Going to show my geek side here.

Anyone ever heard of a marvel No Prize?

Back in the 70's when Marvel was being run by Stan Lee and was absolutely crushing DC part of their attraction was they were fun and didn't take themselves too seriously at all (whereas DC had a very stiff pretentious attitude)

One of their gimmicks was if you found a mistake in a comic, either a blank word balloon or misspellings or more importantly them claiming something happened back in an issue that it never did, if you found a mistake and mailed it to them(yes kids, before e-mails!)

they would send you an official marvel no prize which was an envelope that said inside is a marvel No prize, you opened it and it was empty.

Of course that's still more than you would get from AIR because Marvel existed and scouries royalties couldn't even buy a stamp.

Contest analysis

Good evening. The interplanetary goat tells me that there are 108 stories in the competition to date, with an average score of 4.27 from an average of 301 votes. Stories had an average of 29,062 views, an average of 10 favorites, and an average of 10 comments. The average ratio of votes to views is 1.06%. The average number of pages is 2.9, with the longest story being 24 pages.

So far there have been a total of 32,566 votes, 3,138,763 views, 1,153 favorites and 1,114 comments.

The standard deviation of scores (from the average of 4.27) is 0.39 and the standard deviation of votes (from the average of 301) is 402. The median score is 4.33, the median number of votes is 172 and the median number of pages is 2. The top 25% of scores are 4.59 or above and the bottom 25% of scores are 4.00 or below.

Sweeps

Some votes have been reduced (swept) since the start of the competition. A total of 92 stories have had their votes adjusted, with 121 sweeps resulting in a new score that day which is higher than before and 21 sweeps resulting in a new score that day which is lower. There were a total of 1072 votes swept, being an average of 11 per story. The maximum number of votes swept for a single story was 303. (Figures based on toplists, and may not be totally accurate).

Disclaimer

Because of the way this site works these figures will not be totally up-to-date. For a given story the score shown on:

  • The category page
  • The author's page
  • The toplists page

can all be different.

Also it appears that various pages update at different times of the day, sometimes quite infrequently.

Please do not PM me asking for more detailed information. I do not wish to skew contest results by giving a target for voting manipulation.

Yes, as anyone unfamiliar with the site can now see, despite scouries claims only certain people can have the contest scores, this shows they are readily available to everyone.

Also note how SSS does not post scores to avoid trolling, unlike scouries, the biggest troll on lit.

Was looking back through the posts and I have come to a very sad conclusion.

We all need to chip in and get Sun_Sea_Sky some serious therapy when this contest is over.

I mean this poor guy has been having to talk to some of the weirdest shit imaginable to get us all these good statistics. I'm truly concerned that he may have done himself an injury.

For all your hard work and the risk of mental damage you have undergone to speak to all these weird things, Thank you.

Swept out the door

Hit again. My #1 story now has 508 votes, down from 1180. No longer in contention. Swept 300 votes on consecutive days.

Oddly, my other story hasn't lost 100 votes total, still sitting around 2200 votes.

Hope everyone else has better luck than me in the sweeps.

That's very sweet. :)

How about a virtual massage? I could use one right now. Just my back, don't get too excited. ;)

Without giving too much away, it seems that the sweeps have affected the top few entries in the competition. Still, there are signs that, after another big sweep, it might change again.

Over half your votes? That's crazy, especially in that category.

Edited to bite back my next remark until we see the final tally.

Sweeping some dust from my attic

There is a question over on the "Story Feedback" forum by a very new author about "Votes disappearing."

After I typed in the best answer I had, a really odd thought occurred to me.

The ancients could see that all the stars moved one way while the planets seemed to wander around. Not having sufficient knowledge, they concocted the most (to us) outrageous explanations for what was really happening.

Sigmund Freud observed human behavior and, not having sufficient knowledge, he concocted the most outrageous explanations for what was really going on in the mind.

Not long ago, somewhere around here, we had a discussion of why the number of views a story received before approval sometimes crept up to double digits, and sometimes seemed to stay on zero. The prevailing theory seems to be that pre-approval views are just a bug in the system. I happen to think it's not, but I'll keep my completely non-outrageous theory to myself, thank you.

So anyway, what are the chances Laurel and Manu (as to whose existence I'm an avowed agnostic, mind you) are looking down on our discussion of the nature and meaning of "vote sweeps" and laughing to themselves, thinking "we don't know what causes them either"?

Gladly. Where's the stress? In your shoulders?

Sweeps haven't affected my top story much, but my LW story has gone up a lot since they began.

Well, LW is troll capital of Lit, so stands to reason they'll get rid of some of those one bombs for you.

I can see that your list of Hotness is shorter than the score list above. I'm assuming that the Hot list shows how many of the stories in each category have an average score of 4,5 or more. E.g. two out of three GM stories (67%) have the red H.
So this means that NONE of the LW, NonHuman, NonCon or First Tiime stories have scores above 4,5 ? Is that a correct conclusion ? Maybe not so surprising for NonCon and NH which only have two stories each, as the same is true for some of the other small categories (SF, Toys, Humor) - although both the N&N and one of the Fetish stories are Hot. And I guess LW suffers fron trolls (according to what I read on this forum), but I was surprised First Time (5 stories) didn't get on the Hot list.
Oh, well this may change in the end, I'm looking forward to seeing the final results (as I'm sure the authors are too :). And absolutely fantastic work on the statistics, Sun.

Correct. I just dropped the zero results from that particular list. The hotness is the percentage of stories entered, in that category, that had a score of 4.5 or above. (Just trying to keep the post size down).

You're welcome. :)

Some kind of odd numbers. NH seems low scored for their usual and the average votes swept seem low for incest.

The 401 average on Romance is so high due to one story being highly targeted by the sweeps.

One thing seems off. The average incest score is 4.36, but 56% made the H rating must not be any extremely low scores.

Hit again. My #1 story now has 508 votes, down from 1180. No longer in contention. Swept 300 votes on consecutive days.

Oddly, my other story hasn't lost 100 votes total, still sitting around 2200 votes.

Hope everyone else has better luck than me in the sweeps.

I think your incest fans followed you to romance there is usually never that high of a number of votes swept. Maybe they were trying to be too helpful.

I just checked Incest with a calculator. The figures are correct. The average score shown is just the total of the 16 scores, divided by 16. It isn't weighted in favour of the stories with higher votes.

You can probably deduce how many Incest stories must be over 4.5.

It's most of them.

As for the sweeps, I'm expecting a large number for the next run, as I think the top lists are updated once a day, and we have reports of big drops. Plus, some stories have no swept votes against them, which seems a bit surprising.

No, not really. Depends on the category.

Seeing we're a day late from the announcement I wonder if the final sweep has occurred.

Between Wed- and last night I lost about 80 votes or so, hard to tell because I'm still getting votes here and there.

Curious that there might be a sweep the day after scheduled announcement of placers. I thought the horn blew at midnight, and game over.

Laurel announced yesterday that the results would be delayed, and that seems par for the course of late. There definitely was a sweep, as others have reported, and I myself saw +/-50 votes gone and a corresponding score change. Perhaps at this point it's just a matter of a final tally.
