Alpha Males are a Myth!

Men who disregard the concept of the dominant male, or the fact that most women are hard-wired to be attracted to dominant males, will pay a heavy price.

Women only settle for non-dominant males when they have no other choice.
Dude! You need to visit some of the lovely dominatrixes down in the BDSM forum. They'll tell you quite clearly that they don't settle for anything. They choose non-dominate males and are hard-wired to be attracted to them--and use them as they please.

There's plenty of wuss at LIT for them to get.

So wolves become 'alpha' males and females by becoming dad and mom. I like it. It does away with all the posturing and bluster. Have a family, raise them well, keep them warm and well fed. Welcome to life in the pack.

And baboon studies have within the last decade revealed that the boss 'boon isn't the one who sires the most little ones. It's the quiet ones off to the side who are nice to the females and play with the babies instead of hooting, baring their fangs and fighting all the time. No surprise there . . .

Hey, I appreciate the hooting baboon there. His job is to scare off the predators and other dangers so that everyone else can mate and procreate. I'm just glad that it's coming clear that the guy who hoots isn't necessarily the one who is leading the pack--he's just the bouncer :D

Just be careful, there's enough testosterone splashing around from some parts that ya might get wet. :D

I'm wearing a spacesuit.

I liked it too. Common sense, isn't it? Swagger isn't as good a survival strategy as it may seem.

But these ideas persist because they're a pseudo-scientific formulation of cultural beliefs. Ideas of hard-wiredness in general need to be viewed with suspicion, as they sneak a sort of philosophical essentialism and abnegation of free will through the back door, together with a covertly reactionary worldview.

Not to mention, it’s so much easier to proclaim oneself an ‘alpha’ or something of the kind ‘by nature’ than actually earn the title of a good leader.

Yep, genetic fingerprinting has been revealing some interesting things about who's procreating in the animal kingdom, and often it's not the "alpha".

Deer? While the big macho stags are fighting one another for dominance, the wimps are hanging out with the ladies.

Cuttlefish? Females choose big strong males to guard them... but are more likely to reproduce with intelligent males who gender-bend long enough to sneak past the "alpha".

Google "sneaky fucker strategy" for some other interesting examples. Humon on deviantart.com did some beautiful cartoons on animal reproduction, including the cuttlefish.

(And then of course there are copious examples of homosexuality in nature.)

Good points, absolutely. In addition to “it’s not swagger that makes a good leader” it has to be said “it’s not all about leading, either.” And beyond even that, “there’s a limit to how much one should generalize from animals to humans.”

Among the big cats the alpha male kills cubs sired by other males. The same risk exists for humans when the man of the house aint daddy. So we'll have to check it out, to see if alpha males kill the spawn of other males. Stay tuned.

And get a little extra protein into their diet at the same time. Clever, those Alphas!

Ok, what I read from these was:
"Alpha males in the animal kindom are cuckolds."

Careful now, that's some dangerous territory, especially on this site...

Interesting! So is this activity one of your special research projects? I had no idea.

With the exception of gibbons, mammals aren't monogamous so cuckoldry does not apply.

What I read reports that in some species of mammals the females do cuckold the alpha male. But these females have the same problem with the other males, who kill cubs, too.

Nope, just something I read. Unlike you I don't take this alpha crap serious. In most cases, alpha is just another word for macho stupid. This thread is full of it.

A good friend of mine recently was asking me about the perception that he is an "alpha male" and how he ended up with people perceiving him that way since he didn't himself and it kind of bugged him. Lol. He must have or he wouldn't have been asking. I wanted to laugh in his face if he had been in the room, but as I said he's a good friend so I didn't want to upset him. As far as I can tell anyone that gets laid regularly can make a claim of "alpha" status.

"Does my Alpha status make my butt look fat?"

No-- but your hat seems way too small."

They're few and far between. That's called the exception to the rule.

LJ R.Has it ever occurred to you that through the threats and illustrations attached to your sig. that you are declaring to the readership that you desperately aspire to the (your?) idea of alpha - and fall very well short of your aspiration. :)

Prolly the best way to recognize an alpha is to see who answers the door when the wolf or the Devil comes knocking.
