Anthropomorphics, and how far do you take them?

This is the first time I'm going to have an anthropomorphic character. In the past I've had werewolves and mermen, but those aren't the same.

Two characters, one with feline characteristics, and the other canine. The canine is taking after a corgie.

And the other is taking after an orange cat. Both can make animal noises. They have animal ears and tails and eyes. The cat has a rough tongue. The dog has a bit of fur running down his spine.

How do others handle anthropomorphs? How far do you take them? And how far CAN we take them before they wander into bestiality?

From the submission guidelines:

No sexual activity involving bestiality (you can write stories about supernatural beasts like ghosts, unicorns, werewolves, etc.) or underage persons will be considered.

The animals have to be fictional or fantasy animals.

I have written two stories involving animals. One was about sex between a rabbit and a fox - no humans involved. The other, The Giant Squid, was about sex between a woman and a Giant Squid but the Squid was a fantasy one. The real Giant Squid lives in abyssal depths and cannot be kept alive at sea level.

Sex between a human and a real animal is not allowed.

If it walks on two legs and talks it's clearly not bestiality, regardless of other factors. Anthros count as nonhumans in the same way that aliens and fantasy races do.

I just want to chime in and say . . . PLEASE GOD NOT A CORGI.

I hate those things. Hate, hate, hate, hate them.

*practicing deep breathing techniques*

OK. Better now.

In response to your post . . . I think what you've described is fine. My sense is that as long as they remain in some way human, and retain human thought at all times, you are fine.

Because really, you just have humans with extra fixings.

And I wish Dark were still posting here. He always seemed to know these things. :(

Well, the thing is I based the character off of the ears and tail that he has, and I just had to find a breed that had floppy crumpled ears and a small fluffy tail.

I don't think corgi is quite right, but I can't find a better one.

And why do you hate corgis?

Have you read "Masters of the Vortex", by E.E.'Doc' Smith?
There's a right jumble of species and it's all handled rather well. No sex, of course, but that's fixable. Just have a look at his descriptions.

Evil dorm head of house when I was in high school. She had two, and all I wanted to do was a) treat them as a footstool or b) drop-kick them. Obviously I did neither . . . but if you've read Harry Potter, think Mrs. Norris. Horrible, horrible creatures.

I will say, though, that I think one of the cool things you could do with dogs is incorporate their breed personalities. I have a friend with a few herding dogs (not corgis), and no matter how a group of people starts out at the beginning of a hike (spread out along a trail, in small groups, etc), by the end we are all bunched together as the damn things run around us.

They just can't stop herding . . . ever. Even if it's walking down the road to the mailbox, we're packed elbow-to-elbow by the time we return to the house.

And you usually don't even realize it's happening until you're bumping into each other.

My chapters 5 and 6 of Lady of My Heart had feline/humanoid characters. I didn't have a sex scene as I was trying to avoid getting it thrown into non human but I stopped just short and mentioned that it had happened off camera so to speak.

Other than appearance, sounds and some very strange courtship customs they were pretty much human.

I can't remember the name of the story, but I'm fairly sure I read it on here. It involved a guy who had a female friend who was a cat-person. Like a human with fur and a tail and a few other things, I guess, but definitely a human. And since I read it on here, it must have passed muster somewhere along the line.

Based on the picture you posted as what you think they'll look like: If they talk and smile and walk upright, etc. they'd be fine. Also just chiming in to say that the suggestion from Tatyana about animal personalities is wonderful. I'd read that.

I have a character that is a genetically engineered cat-human hybrid. She's very catlike, purrs, meows, sheds fur-- but can speak human languge-- and is sexually active with humans. Some humans are repelled at the thought of fucking a cat, some are fine with her. I don't post it here.

Cruel, Keyno from The Harvest had feline characteristics, remember? He had the ears, the tail, the rough tongue, and a barb... just like you're talking about.

Ti had snake-like qualities: hissing, forked tongue, red eyes, venom, fangs, and a tail.

And I had other characters in that series that had animal characteristics too. But they all also were humanoid. :)

I know... I always liked Keyno until you sent me your inspiration pic. I never quite saw him the same afterwards.

How much impotent fan rage did you get after pulling the Harvest? :)

I just thought it would make an interesting conversation piece. I'm pretty sure that Sergi and Cade are human enough to pass inspection.

How've you been?

*laugh* sorry about that! I know which one you mean lol.

I think it's a great idea, and I hope you do it.

It wasn't too bad after I explained *why* I pulled it lol. I still get emails from here asking what happened to the series, and I point them to my blog. :) I'm going to send it off just as soon as I wrap up my Greek Gods series. Hehe, I'm about to start Szin's story on my blog, and need to decide if I want to post that here.

I'm usually keeping an eye out for the next deadline coming up on me lol. Oh, my my youngest started 12th grade Monday. Eeek, she's a senior, Cruel! God, I feel old lol.

How's school going? Or have you started back yet?

I go back on the 23rd. I got a crappy job for the summer, and I've lost twenty pounds since I got back from school. If I lose 15 more I'll be at the same weight I was exactly one year ago.

The freshman 35 was not kind to me.

Other than that, stuff is going great. Getting a bit of impotent fan rage myself because of how slow I've been with updating Eyes Like Winona. The story started off great, and then life got in the way. As it is wont to do.

Looking forward to being back. I got roped into D&D late last year, and I have a half-elf bard-rogue that I can't wait to try out with my college friends. :)

Why not? Because of the bestiality rule or some other reason?

Interesting. Even if others relate to her as a cat, I would still think that's a fantasy character and does not fall under Lit's bestiality issues.
I do think she'd trigger reader's issues here at lit.

But really, I wanted to say that I have a human-shaped cat character-- as opposed to a cat-shaped human character-- that has sex with humans...

Okay asshole spammer, I hope your keyboard explodes in a shower of stinking plastic shards and you die in the resulting fire.

nothing personal, you understand...
