The Official Author's Hangout Summer Lovin' Contest Support Thread

Twelve hours without a post on this thread? For shame!

And sob. While it's not unusual for the document that contains all the sections I've cut from a story to be as long as the story itself, the thousand words I dumped today hurt.

Moving on . . . I keep seeing all these people talk about finished contest stories. Anyone else still slogging through? Worried about the deadline? Having plots or characters that are simply not cooperating?

Tell me, and let me have a brief moment of Schadenfreude. :p

I haven't even started yet, how's that?

Got a firm plot bunny, but muddling through another story. I never start one without finishing one and hoping to put this one to bed in the next couple of days.

Then I'll start the contest story, odds are I'll do what I usually do and get in about halfway through the contest.

Me, I'm slogging. Just totally out of rhythm and sync with this story b/c I had to put it away for so long. And lately haven't had the time to try to get back with it. I'll try, though.

But enjoy the schadenfreude. :)

OK. I apparently suck at Schadenfreude, or at least I do when someone like my asshole of a boss isn't involved.

Best of luck, you two! And thanks for letting me know I'm not the only not sitting back, buffing my nails.

Though speaking of nails, LC, I'm having awful pregnancy-related foot cramping, so if you want to brave the southern summer and lend a helping hand . . . .

;)

Oh, you nasty little foot tease!

I'd do more than rub, when my first wife was very pregnant and couldn't do it, I used to paint her nails for her.

Ooops there goes the last of my "man points"

LC, Mr. Tat tried painting my toenails before a wedding a few weeks ago. He got an A for effort, but it was a good thing I had a friend there to help fix things!

On the bright side, I'm so busy because I am trying to give the bachelor pad a good cleaning on top of taking care of my father. Looks like it may not be a bachelor pad forever and I don't want to scare the lady off with cob webs and dust bunnies. :D

Well, I supposed that's a good excuse to get out of a second story. Good luck making the bachelor pad into a love nest!

I haven't started mine yet. Not sure which direction I want to take it in. I like this contest, so I have too many plot bunnies right now.

I need to edit, but mine is done! yay!
I hope I don't open the document and hate something...that will ruin my day, lol.

I have another started that I never considered for the contest, but it would be perfect....if the characters would just have sex already, geesh!
Apparently they aren't ready. *le sigh* :)

I toss in a plot bunny, as I don't have the time to write it.

Consider a humor/satire entry into a sexual Olympics game, since these are the XXX Summer Olympics. Base it in Las Vegas, and come up with all sorts of bonzo competitions, tantric sex for endurace, sprint fellatio, etc.

Use a narrative like an NBC Broadcast with Bob Costas segueing to the different venues with reports from different color commentators.

"Oh, that's going to slow him down, she wasn't sufficiently lubed," the announcer cried, "though good initiative going for the quick cunnilingus fix, he'll soon be sluicing back on his way!"

Hehe. Already done. Check out The Literotica Olympics in chain stories.

has anyone done a master slave story set in summer. The idea of someone with a sunburn being whipped gives me the chills

I think i will enter a story for this. i haven't given any of the contests a try so why not.

Sunburn....whip.....shiver!

M.S.Tarot

saw an entry about a Muppet love fest....it's been done. It's called 'Meet the Feebles.'

From a redhead who gets really awful sunburns, this isn't erotic at all, it's scary, painful and just plain WRONG! lol --- Count me out.

Does an edited story appear on the "New Story List?" I have never checked when I submitted an edited version. Check the posting date on the author's index. That does not change when an edited version is posted.

Lit. does not post the total views for an author under any one story, except maybe by accident. Some of us would have 100,000,000 total or more.

I don't believe edited stories ever make it to the new list, so if an edited one is there, it's a glitch. I've done edits on my stories and they've never seen the new list, just get slid in over the old one and nothing else changes.

My spouse would paint mine too, mainly he painted them when I was in the hospital after giving birth and when I was living it up in two different ones for a month - fun times.

He did a great job and took forever, but it felt nice to be pampered.

I was stuck on my summer story for a while, but I'm working on it now, although the timeline is definitely being contracted a bit. I really love the beginning, so I can't abandon it, but I don't think I can make the rest of the story as good as those first ten or so pages are... Ah well. I guess certain parts of the stories are always going to be better than others, right?

I did find a plot bunny for a second summer story, though, while reading this book called Hardship Postings, a collection of anecdotes from expats in Asia. If I write it, it'll be my first third-party story, and it can definitely fit into the summer theme, I feel, so we'll see if I have the time and inclination to write it. I start classes again soon, so I might not have the free time needed anymore...

I am unsure I'm gonna be in the running this time around after all. Either the inspiration or the drive just isn't coming to me for a summer-themed story, and I need to focus on not-for-literotica stories for a time.

Dammit. Why can't summer be longer? It's the best season!

I have a couple of questions about the contest:
1st was if you can submit more than one story? I see other people here talking about a second story, so I'm guessing so.
2nd is I'm writing a story that I think's going to be really good, but from reading around on the forum, I'm afraid it may get low marks for being controversial. Should I not even enter it and try to come up with something more mainstream?
3rd is how are the winners judged, anyway?
TIA and sorry if these are dumb questions!

1. Yes, you can submit multiple entries. Some people may bitch. Screw 'em. Those are the rules.

2. If your only goal is to WIN, then you want to submit something nonhuman or sci-fi/fantasy with a solid plot and an internally consistent premise, and you don't want it to be short. You want to make sure that no female character has sex with more than one male character, for any reason, ever. That seems to be the way to play the odds.

However, stories that don't fit that description win contests all the time. If you have a story premise you believe in and it fits the contest, write it and enter it anyway. Worst case, you don't win, but you still get the readership boost of being in a contest (which is significant!).

3. The story with the highest reader vote average wins. There is no adjustment for having more or less votes; it's apparently all based on that average score.

"no female character has sex with more than one male character, for any reason, ever."
That's exactly the issue.

"If your only goal is to WIN...still get the readership boost of being in a contest (which is significant!)."
While it would, of course, be nice to win, that's not my primary concern if just being a contestant brings many new readers. I didn't know if that was the case.

Thank you for your quick and thorough answer!

Write the story you want to tell, tell it well, and nevermind the nay-sayers.

"Write the story you want to tell, tell it well, and nevermind the nay-sayers."

Thank you for the encouragement!

Despite everything that I said -- because mostly I was being cynical -- I entirely agree with this sentiment. It's your story. Write it. Screw what the anonymous complainers say.
