The highest I heard that it hit was Baltimore and Annapolis. Washington, D.C., reportedly was the hardest it. The storm was said to be the worst non-hurricane event to hit Virginia in recorded history.

We're dry as a bone here. Hasn't rained for more than five minutes at a time a couple of days in weeks. Some hail Friday during one of those brief rainstorms.
Looking like we might finally get something come the third and fourth. I'm holding off on buying any fireworks until I see what that amounts to. Wouldn't be firing them off until the weekend anyway. Don't want to burn down the woods, garden, yard, or the house at Mom's

I thought Cruel was that gay guy from Minnesota, according to scummies.
I do believe she is in Minn. though. Nothing but sweltering heat and humidity up here on the other side of the lakes. The Big Smoke is the Big Steamy right now.

The storm hit South Jersey, where my parents are, pretty hard. Over 150k people were without power, most of them in Atlantic County, where my parents live. They stayed home for a lot of Saturday but when it was obvious power would be out for a while they packed up some stuff and came here. So far estimates are that power will be restored on/by Wednesday, July 4.
I've been keeping up on the Washington Post as well and estimates of people without power there have ranged from 1.2 to 1.5 million and I think it could be out there for the better part of this week. Having lived in the area myself and knowing how miserable it is in the summer, especially during a heatwave like this, I am so glad it missed us and feel so bad for everyone dealing with it.

Have a job. And I was at it.
And at my job, they sell ice cream products, so it's ninety degrees now (at about ten thirty where I am) and it was even hotter during the day. I was pretty busy.
Got an e-mail maybe some half-hour ago from DG Hear, MFG, in Southern Ohio. 80 mph winds Friday, rain, hail, 3000 lightning strikes in one hour, power out for some people until 7/5. DG has a generator, so he's able to write and send e-mails. Says he's working on Ch 2 of another N-Day entry.
I guess I dodged the bullet, flew out of Richmond VA Friday afternoon and had a smooth ride home.
Hope everybody else and their families have survived and got power back.

Hope it doesn't do any more damage.
We're still trying to figure out the power situation in South Jersey. It appears some power is back in the town where my dad works, but no word on on the town where they live. Well, judging by the power co's site some stuff is back but no word on whether their house is back.

Glad it didn't do any more damage. At last check my parents are still out. Mom's getting anxious to get home and clear out the fridge, although she may need a hazmat suit to do it.

Surprisingly we didn't have to toss out much of anything after a 37-hour outage except for the ice cream. We keep the freezer stuffed with ice filled milk bottles in unused space and that seemed to have helped keep the freezer from going above freezing.
We have areas around here that aren't promised electricity before this coming weekend. Unfortunately it's also areas mostly on wells, so they are out of water too.
The type of straight-line wind storm that went through the eastern third of the United States on Friday has a name, apparently. It's called a derecho.

Had nothing in Rhode Island short of a few thunderstorms that took some of the humidity and heat away. Been mid eighties the last couple of days.

One thing my parents did have was water, and a gas stove, so they could have cooked. However, with this heat, I didn't really want them staying there longer than they had to. And at this point it's been two and a half days, at least, and they did leave some bags of ice and all in the freezer, but I think at this point it won't matter.

The weather event that caused all this havoc is called a 'Super Derecho'. I'd never heard of such a thing before. Evidently it's a new classification of a storm first cited in 2010. It generates winds equal to a Cat. 1 Hurricane (90+ mph).

Last outage we had, it gave us a reason to camp in the backyard. Tent went up, bbq was fired up and the Coleman cooler kept our food fresh. We almost didn't want to break camp, we were having so much fun.
Glad you found a way to keep your spirits up. My mom is not the camping type.
