baby boxes

In the US you can walk into certain places like hospitals and drop your newborn off anonymously, no questions asked.

In my state, a baby can be left at any fire station, no questions asked.

Its a smart idea.

If someone doesnt want to be a parent, or cant handle it, why leave a child in danger or on the street. Let them take a baby to someplace safe, rather then reading stories about dead babies in dumpsters or high school bathrooms.

and what do you think about this?

It's better than leaving the baby in a trash can, which is why "safe haven" baby drops were created in the first place.

I can imagine the state of mind of a mother who has given birth without medical assistance in her apartment or who knows where. Most likely alone, physically weak, terrified and in despair and perhaps in shock. If she is offered simple alternative, it costs us nothing and saves a baby's life.

Of course, you then have people who abuse the safe haven drops. I believe when the laws were 1st written many just said "child", no age requirement.. and then people started dropping off their teenagers:rolleyes: So now I believe most states have age limits.

Maryland allows a parent to take a baby up to ten days old to any hospital or police station and surrender it as a safe Haven baby without fear of prosecution.

I don't really see why anyone would really be against this. It's not that much different than putting a baby up for adoption, though there is presumably no paperwork.

I thought this thread was about something totally different.
