Do you worry about your privacy or how much you put out there? Do you try to limit what people from Literotica or other erotic forums can find out about you? If so, how do you go about keeping your private life away from your online life?

Have you ever had someone from your online life find you in real life with the information you've given them?

I do worry, and like probably most people on here; I have created a separate identity from other online personas. Google, whist a good friend at times, can be a hell of a chatterbox, lol

Oh I am only 33, but I seem old fashioned with all this technology stuff. I have fake names for all my media, and different names between. Hubby laughs at my silly quirks, but a little conspirsasy theorizing is healthy I say! Just google your own name and see what personal stuff comes up! I've been tied to a distant cousin 2000 miles away and a Ham radio license. Does anyone use those anymore? Lol

You always have to be careful...especially in the growing inter-connective world that we live in.

It completely depends...I'm very careful what I post on the boards....but what I share with individuals...that can be a varied story.


I have given folks all the information they would need to know to find me....and have met up specifically just to meet with others. It's kinda fun, the never knowing.

Luckily my name is very common and I never give out my last name. I'm wondering if it would be better to only give out my middle name.

This screenname is different from the other one I use at non-erotic sites, so there is no crossover in that respect. I also have a separate email for this.

I just did a google search on my real name and got a number of nasty surprises, including an old address, two news stories and details of where I work. I thought I'd been careful, now will be even more careful in the future.

I feel like I've been fairly cautious. I will give out my first name but not my last. i try to stick with very basic personal info.

I just tried to google myself and guess what....nothing that came up is actually about me....so that's a plus...lol

The online world can be very scary.....you never REALLY know if what someone is saying is the truth. It's not very trustworthy once the info it out there.

I tend to use other usernames on other boards, but I'm mainly a creepy lurker because I don't feel like I have time to participate in too many online communities these days. Lit is the only forum that I'm currently active on, and my participation here has dropped off in recent years.

I think that, if he or she really wanted to take the time to do it, a friend or acquaintance who stumbled across Lit could figure out who I am based on things I've posted about in the past, but I'm not too worried about this happening. I'm Facebook friends with five (I think!) Litsters, and there are at least two or three others that I would trust with my personal info.

I have a ridiculously generic name (first, middle, and last), yet I still use different names online. I'm a very private person in real life, and I would be MORTIFIED if anyone (well, most anyone) I know ever found out what my online personas were! Hence, I'll never share photos or videos online. I just won't risk it.

I will no longer send pictures. One thing I have never done and will never do is webcam (sexually speaking). I do not need someone capturing a webcam video and uploading it to an amateur porn site. It surprises me how many people will webcam, especially when they show their faces.

Security By Obscurity.

I don't worry about it much. I use pseudonyms online and I have a very common real name (also first, middle and last). If you google my real name, all kinds of real stuff comes up - but nothing I am ashamed or worried about. I don't use a pseudonym to hide from anyone, I used it to prevent accidental discovery by people who only peripherally know me. Then, in general, I don't don't anything the people in my real life don't know about anyway. I work in the information industry and there really is no privacy - all that information just goes out there and floats around. We have security by obscurity - LOL - who really cares about me? The handful of people I know and love. That said, if I was a woman I would take basic to advanced security precautions to conceal my identity and location - the experience of the internet between men and women can be radically different. LOL - there is a pair of sexually explicit pictures of me floating out there in the wild, but both are cropped so there are no identifying features.

I'm agree with Paul, I don't worry about it too much but I have had experience with men online being a little too aggressive so I don't use my full name and I use a completely separate email account.

On a side note: has anybody here thought about what might happen if they were to suddenly pass away? Do you have a contingency plan for your personal computer (realising that everything you've ever done on your computer is filed away in there somewhere)?
What about extremely personal items like toys?
Do you really want your mother/sister/brother/children finding these things?

If you're dead, who cares what others find, otherwise you're pretty much screwed if you no longer have control of your computer. At the very least you should be clearing your internet history from your browser, better is to use maintenance software that removes cache, cookies, etc that will leave a trail of your online life.

If you care about personal security at all, then you must become savvy enough to know how to protect yourself as much as possible, from using browsers that don't track everything you do and call home to its maker with the details (as ALL Microsoft products do ), to software that contains your musings and deletes upon closing (aka sandbox software ).

According to the all knowing Google I own companies, am currently attending numerous universities across the country, have business and twitter accounts, and apparently I'm a master of disguise because the dozen or so images look nothing like me.

Now that I feel completely insignificant I'll just return to my shadowy pervy world and enjoy the scenery. LOL

My name is not common and googling it gets me as the first several results. And of course in public I keep everything completely anonymous. However, if I feel good about a person I'm talking with, I will share a link to a website that has pictures of me and my name on it. I have never had a problem with this. But if I don't feel good about it, I don't give that out.

I am in the IT business and I tend to find that most of us are more paranoid than the general public. While I use my online nic in many places none of those places have any personal information that can track back to me. I have different passwords associated to different accounts based on what I suspect of their security. If they need an address I give them a fake one.

Control your online presence is not that hard. I don't tend to worry about pictures that do not include my face.... Speaking of face I am not a fan of facebook.

My screen name and e-mail is separate from my real one. With hubby's encouragement, I post my face as that is what makes a pic complete. I encourage everyone to do the same! With age, independence increases, although, I hope my grandsons don't find my pics.

I was recognized once. We met a guy in the pool at a nude resort once and later when he saw my pics taken at the resort, he recognized me. He also had pics of his g/f taken in the same location which he shared with us. After all, we had seen each other naked!
