This is mainly for Cheyenne since so few watch the show.

The first contestant is either a genius or truly gone fishing, over the rainbow, preparing to place the last brick.

They did a great job of setting up the voodoo (?) and exorcism dancers as total loons only to have them shine, but I have to wonder why they are sending them to Vegas without testing their choreography; I hope they arrange some hasty coaching for them.

The little two-year old out there dancing, now that had to be the cutest thing I have seen in a long time!

The Swiss guy was pretty good.

Lot's of rockin' bods!

;) ;)

Got any favorite dancers yet?

I like the guy with the mother who is going blind.

He has a nice story, but he was no better than the Nekkid Aussie...

:D ;) ;)

I'll bet he was trained by some former inmate of the Eastern Block.

Does "C" know any word other than Buck?

The Japanese guy with the Ronald McDonald hair was a hoot, too bad he's gone so soon...

As soon as I saw him I predicted the Ronald McDonald guy would go to choreography and then flunk out. No way was he going to be able to handle partner dancing. That's probably true for a few of the others, too.

That's exactly why I wondered why the Texas dancers were advanced.

Circus rules LA!

Pole dancing, hoop dancing...,

That was pretty damned cool!

Too many blondes with sad stories; they all start looking alike.

I loved the whacking segment, the panel had me in stitches, but the guy was really good, sorry to see that he and the Italian Stallion did not make it out of choreography.

The twins were one of the funniest things I have seen on the show and the wackadoodle Ballet dancer from Ohio cannot get far with those teeth.

I'll bet when we get to the groups that we will find out why mom kicked the one blonde out of the house..

How about coma guy?

;) ;)

Agree with all of this! Interesting people at the tryouts. I am enjoying watching the dancing, even if they don't make it to the finals.

I had the same feeling that we were missing a big part of the backstory with the "homeless" girl. Not saying she's a liar, but it sounded like teenage-y dramatics to me.

The pole dancer has a great future ahead of her. It may even include dancing.

The quality of contestant is certainly high compared to the first couple of seasons which will make this quite a show case for the choreographers.

She has a great resume with a scholarship to one prestigious NY dance school as well as Alvin Ailey. I think she's a bit beyond being a mere pole dancer, but I have to admit, I really, really loved watching her move her body about!

YUMMY!

I wonder when they actually start the competition. I think they have a few more cities to go for tryouts and then there is Vegas to pick the top 20. May be end of June before they actually start dancing for the title!

With the level of talent they are showing, I'm kinda happy waiting.

I'd like to see this in the fall going against some of the other worn out reality/competition shows because this one displays a talent and an athleticism well beyond anything else on TV with the possible exception of the MMA shows...

The two seasons were in 2009

Season 5

Auditions for Season 5 kicked off in New York City on November 13, 2008 and continued on to Miami, Los Angeles, Denver, Memphis, and Seattle. The premiere aired on May 21, 2009. Louis van Amstel joined the show's cast of choreographers and Shane Sparks returned to choreograph while on break from America's Best Dance Crew. The prize for the winner was once again $250,000 cash, the chance to be on the November 2009 issue cover of Dance Spirit Magazine, and the title of "America's Favorite Dancer." On August 6, 2009 (the finale), Jeanine Mason was given the title.

[edit] Season 6

After a low-rated special episode of Dance featuring Lythgoe presenting his and viewer's favorite dance routines from seasons 1–5, the sixth season of Dance, premiered on Wednesday, September 9, 2009.[6] Auditions were held in Boston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City.[7] Adam Shankman joined as the permanent judge for the first time this season. The winner was Russell Ferguson.

[edit] Season 7

Auditions began in Miami, Florida, on January 18, 2010, continuing through New York, Dallas, Nashville, and Chicago, ending in Los Angeles on March 26. The season premiered on May 27, 2010. This season introduced significant format changes to the show, with a Top 11 dancers instead of the traditional Top 20 and "All-Stars", contestants from previous seasons who returned to partner with the Top 11 for a portion of their routines. Lauren Froderman won this season with Kent Boyd as runner-up.

[edit] Season 8

Auditions started October 13, 2010 in Oakland, California and continued through November 15 in Brooklyn, New York. The premiere aired on May 26, 2011.

The series began a new version of the "All-Star" format in which the All Stars didn't come in until the top 10. The show returned to a top 20 with couples. This season also marks the first time that the public can cast votes online, in addition to calling in, with a limit of 50 votes per viewer. On August 11, 2011, it was announced that Melanie Moore was the winner of season 8 and Sasha Mallory the runner-up. Together they received 79% of the 11.5 million votes.

[edit] Season 9

On October 6, 2011, Fox announced that it had renewed So You Think You Can Dance for a ninth season, which premieres on May 24, 2012. As of January 2012, Producer Nigel Lythgoe announced that the result shows have been cut by Fox.[8] On May 18th, 2012, Nigel Lythgoe announced that 2 winners will be crowned: a male and a female. [9]

Not sure I like the changes for season 9 but I guess it is better than not having a season 9 at all.

The results show was kinda lame at times.

I'll bet expenses had something to do with it; the economy has hit Idol in a similar manner and the guests were probably axed and that would make it even lamer.

Hey, who knows, with a male and a female winner, maybe, finally, someone is trying to find a way to actually unite the country and not create bitter group divides...

;) ;)

I wonder what they will do, announce who went home at the beginning of each show?

Will those cut still have to practice a routine?

Do they let them know and then try to keep it a secret as the shuffle partners?

Audrey Case, Edmonton OK

Cute as a button.

I like Tourette's girl too.

There is just so much talent.

Once again, they sent a troupe of hip-hop guys who probably have no chance of going far.

This might be why they cannot afford the results show...
