It may not be the job you like, but work is work. A paycheck is a paycheck.
You would also be surprised how very few employers actually check your references or call your current or former employers.
I have been conducting my own little experiment for several months to test this. I filled out a lot of applications just to see what happened. Some with a resume'. Some were simple walk-ins at places I frequent, some were via Unemployment office in 2 different states (TX and GA).
About 1/3 of them resulted in on the spot offers or call back for a 2nd interview. The on-the-spot offers for hire were several restaurants and convenience stores.
The call backs and 2nd interview offers were from Home Depot, Lowe's, and Autozone. Another one was to start as a manager trainee for Ingles.
My boss, well aware of my ploy, had me go to several of our competitors in Property Management/Maintenance companies to test their hiring practices. Of those 4, 2 actually followed on my references and a second interview. One of the other 2 actually had a schedule and start date for me.
If you are not finding work, you simply are not using the right resources and/or you are not trying hard enough.
