It may not be the job you like, but work is work. A paycheck is a paycheck.

You would also be surprised how very few employers actually check your references or call your current or former employers.

I have been conducting my own little experiment for several months to test this. I filled out a lot of applications just to see what happened. Some with a resume'. Some were simple walk-ins at places I frequent, some were via Unemployment office in 2 different states (TX and GA).

About 1/3 of them resulted in on the spot offers or call back for a 2nd interview. The on-the-spot offers for hire were several restaurants and convenience stores.
The call backs and 2nd interview offers were from Home Depot, Lowe's, and Autozone. Another one was to start as a manager trainee for Ingles.

My boss, well aware of my ploy, had me go to several of our competitors in Property Management/Maintenance companies to test their hiring practices. Of those 4, 2 actually followed on my references and a second interview. One of the other 2 actually had a schedule and start date for me.

If you are not finding work, you simply are not using the right resources and/or you are not trying hard enough.

So there's an 8.2% workforce deficit to match the 8.2% unenployment?

How is it I was offered so many jobs if people are saying there are no jobs available?

You can google and look at unemployment percentages all you want. It does not tell you everything behind those numbers. If someone really wants to work, all they have to to is keep trying, accepting no excuses for not having work. Never get discouraged. Once you land a job just to pay some bills and put food on the table, at least you have breathing room until you find what you really want.

Dude, 3 months ago I hired a cook from Waffle House to do cleanup in our warehouse until lawn season opened up. Now he is a valued employee in our lawn and landscaping division. He had never cut a blade of grass outside of his own yard in his entire life. The guy is 38 yrs old, worked as a manager for a few years for a restaurant chain that closed his store for budget reasons and kicked him to the curb. He took a minimum wage job for Waffle House, and is seriously underpaid there. He and his wife rent a duplex from us. And when I seen the wonderful yard work he does there, I offered him a part time job to cut grass. Paying a lot more than Waffle House. He had never once thought about working outside for a living and now he is pretty fucking good working full time. Though still part time with Waffle House.

He now plans to go back to college to finish his accounting degree. Dude is pretty good with numbers, so there is a strong possibility he could fill a position our current accountant who is set to leave next year. As a full time employee living in one of our rentals, he gets a rental discount on his duplex as well.

The Mexican landscaper sees me waiting in the truck for Princess and starts yammering at me in Spanish, so I replied in German.

He looks at me and says "What?"

I said, "You're not in Mexico, speak English..."

I should have said what all the Mexicans said back in my days in boot camp, "I'm an Indian, not a Mexican!"

Que?

I'm too lazy to find the upside down question mark to begin the question.

I needed a job, so I created one.

A local "luminary" says the Hispanic Invasion is simply the Indians taking the continent back.

We're all Comanchero now...

Dude, it's math.

There are x number of people without jobs.

Are there x number of jobs without people?

You can only fill the gap so much. After that all that happens if person A tries harder to get a job, he takes a job opportunity away from person B.

If you are a female, age 18 to 40, have a nice slender body and smell good, you can always get a job.

Just advertise on Craig's List.

Dude, at least make up a story that's a little believable. Someone please pass the bullshit repellent.

Some employers will even hire people with face and arm tattoos, nose piercings, pants on the ground, and who can't speak standard English. Ok, not many. Maybe almost none.

Perhaps our government education system has something to do with people not qualifying for jobs. Naw, that can't be it.

There is an engineering student getting tattoo removal done.

It seems it is not a good idea to tat "fuck you" across your fingers if you want to get a decent job.

Sorry Johnny. I have been trying for quite a while now, even for retail and minimum wage grunt work. One example, a doctor who "had to meet me" and was not hiring literally told me "I would leave this up to my office manager, but if she met you she'd be too intimidated."

WTF? Also walking into private practices that were hiring, being handed an application and receiving blank stares when I told them I will be back to hand this in with a cover letter. I gathered a cover letter was way over their heads!

Overqualified and I am 46 years old. I really do not think my age was detrimental but now I am starting to wonder.

Yes, there are many jobs to be had where I am. Believe me, I am trying VERY hard!
