Same sex marriages now fighting for the right to divorce.

Wait- so we got the right to enter into a contract, but not to get out of a contract? That makes no fucking sense.

They could simply move to a neighboring state.

Or the state could get the big wad out of it's collective panties and just let the mother fuckers live like every other human being. God damn they are basically asking to pump more money into the economy...if for no other reason do it for the money.

I was being facetious. Sorry if that didn't come out clear.

I agree with you. the state should grant equal rights to all.

OH sorry...I didn't pick up the sarcasm.....interwebs *shrug*

Try reading it next time, fuckwit.

They legally recognize that the contract is valid, because it was valid in wherever it was entered into, but refuse to allow for a diffusion. That's fucking retarded. I stand by it.

But I think the whole "don't let the gays get married" thing is fucking retarded anyway. I have no plans of getting married, either to a man or a woman, but it's retarded that if I wanted to marry a chick I could, and if I wanted to marry a guy I couldn't. It's a legal contract. Didn't we do away with gender-based legal contracts in the 60s? Because they were unconstitutional? You should legally be able to enter into and out of a contract with anyone you want. It makes no sense.

And no one has been able to explain it to me.

I think it is an interesting question. Should a state be compelled to spend resources on something they themselves have not sanctioned for it's own citizens? I am not so sure that I can say yes to this. On the one hand, I want them to go back to their original state to dissolve their marriage because it just isn't practical to force every state to deal with this. On the other hand, a large part of me thinks "full faith and credit" and as such couples can go anywhere. Up to me none of us would be getting married which would solve this conundrum. This should be a private contract which states the rules of dissolution, in my world anyway.

If there is no recognition of the marriage then how can there be recognition of a divorce.

We have shit going on here where gays are coming in to the country to get married, and then later back to get dovorced. The law states that you have to be seperated here for a year to get a divorce....and that means here, not in another country. Divorce is actually quite simple but splitting assets is another story. You get a divorce in Canada but there is no law in your state to ensure the proper splitting of assets. It goes way deeper than a simple same sex marriage and divorce when there is money and sometimes children involved

But that's the law's fault, not the folks. The whole idea that same-sex marriage is somehow different from different-sex marriage and needs to be handled differently is muddling up the legal system and forcing a lot of folk to go through a lot of trouble. Domestic problems don't discriminate based on gender. And it's no better on kids to have two daddies who are fighting all the time then it does for them to have a mommy and a daddy who are fighting all the time. Seriously- this is one of those situations where whoever's fighting this needs to stop thinking about what they want, and start thinking about what's best for their constituents- and the children.

The shit Democrats create in 12 packs we gotta deal with one by one.
