Can anyone recommend a website to pick up small, freelance editing jobs? I am currently in need of a few paying projects to help make ends meet over the summer.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Have you googled "freelance copy editing jobs"? You'll come up with a gaggle of job boards.

If you want to copyedit erotica, track down erotica pubisher websites (you can find publisher lists on Allromanceebooks.com or Fictionwise.com, just to name two), check out calls for editors on their websites, and maybe even query publishers who look like they publish what you have experience in editing.

Be prepared to show credentials and samples.

I haven't done this in a few years, but try posting on bulletin boards in your local colleges, student unions, etc. Students, particularly those for whom English is a second language, will pay modest fees (I've charged $15 a page/275 words, but I have some writing creds) to have their assignments/papers vetted. You will have to deal with deadlines. Do some research on what fees might be in your area and note if you have areas of expertise. For example, I have a medical background and a lot of my work was for nursing students.

Best of luck! :rose:

Thank you. I was hoping to find someone who had experience in the "gaggle" and could steer me towards the good, or at least away from the bad.

Thank you, I hadn't even thought of tapping the college market.

That's the worst part about trying to find freelance jobs is getting through the scams.

It's much the same from the other end--finding a freelance editor who actually has the training and experience to do the work.

Yeah, heaven forbid you "only" find a "second-reader".

I was looking into being a virtual admin for a while, but the problem was the market is flooded with people from India willing to do the work for so little, which in turn had others marking their prices down, so people wouldn't consider you for $30/hr (which is totally reasonable in my opinion considering that wouldn't even cover my salary and benefits from my day job).

Then you get all these employers who are wondering why their workers are so unreliable, or why their work is so crappy.

Then of course there's other people who are terrible, who ask for $30, and then do a horrible job and make employers even more disenfranchised.
