Watch for libs to suddenly advocate new power plants

Well the object must be to bring down the American economy. Environmentalism as we've seen makes it damned near a losing proposition to build new power plants, as well as keeping existing plants in operation.

Exactly, it's an issue of planetary fairness; we should only be using energy in proportion to our population and since we cannot bring everyone up to our level, we need to bring ourselves down thereby reducing envy which, of course reduces hate...

;) ;)

A massive campaign must be launched to restore a high-quality environment in North America and to de-develop the United States...,

White House Office of Science and Technology Director

“Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”
Obama Energy Secretary Steven Chu

It always amazes me when The Big Dummy gets on TV and whines that we produce 6% of the worlds oil but use 20% of the resource, without mentioning that in return we produce over 20% of the worlds goods.

Capitalism is EVIL!

It rapes the world!

It kills the planet!

It causes WAR!

It makes a lot of sense for the EPA to add one more hurdle to the anemic US economy in the name of saving the planet as the rest of the world increases coal production and use. After all, we have had such good luck over the years leading by example.

In Merc's fantasy world, government regulations cost nothing to comply with because they are virtuous, and good people willingly choose to sacrifice for the greater good.

Profits are merely excess funds you weren't going to use anyway. Like the trash you leave on the curb every week.

Unable to assail my actual position, you're assigned me one that I don't agree with and attacked it. Your straw man arguments show that you've lost and you're just flailing around.

You finally picked up on that, eh?

Hey Mister Logic Cop, we love your hypocritical double standards - liberals can't step into any logic fallacies, but when conservatives do? Well then it's not just okay, it's to be encouraged!

...because their beloved brownshirt EPA is pushing new rules that will make it financially nearly impossible to build a new power plant. This way, they can pretend to be all "Drill baby, drill!" while knowing it'll never happen.

The time to bankrupt the coal industry is about to arrive.

Good thing for them, everyone is distracted by the "racist" Democrat shooting a black thug in Florida, and won't notice the rule.

New plants that will never be built until the lot of them over at the EPA are behind bars or kicked to the curb. Close all of the coal fired plants and give up 40 percent of the electrical generating power of the country.
From the article:
But the rules will not regulate existing power plants, the source of one third of U.S. emissions, and will not apply to any plants that start construction over the next 12 months.
There it says that if passed, the rules will not apply to any new plants that start construction in the next twelve months.

Do you understand that part? If you want a new coal-fired plant without the regulatory burdens, don't just whine about it, get off your ass and start building one.

Or just build one with a scrubber. Sure you'll have to charge slightly more, but it's not like another energy company can just build a power plant across the street and undercut you on price.

Do you have any clue how long it takes to get the design and permitting done? Just ask the Keystone Pipeline people.

Right, because an international oil pipeline is exactly the same as a coal-fired power plant.

Market forces have the price of natural gas so low investors are giving up on new coal plants. And there's far less regulation with natural gas plants since they don't create any of the pollutants that coal plants do, save CO2. And they produce only half as much CO2 per megawatt.

Right, because an international oil pipeline is exactly the same as a coal-fired power plant.

You missed the point, intentionally.

The question stands.

The answer is "too long to get one under construction before the new rules."

The new limit is 1000 parts of pollution per megawatt hour.

Coal belches 1800 parts
Natural gas belches 850 parts.

No more coal-fired plants. Deal with it.

I suppose the plant could gave 5 natural gas generators and 1 coal and then meet the standard in terms of pollution/megawatt hour.
