Extremely few people with mild intellectual and cognitive disabilities are capable of attending post-secondary education.
I have borderline intellectual functioning (IQ 70-85) and was in special education for a few years. This disability was caused by bad genetics. I am a living example of the reason why they have abortions. I firmly believe that persons with disabilities should be aborted due to their future quality of life.
It would be extraordinarily difficult to continue my education beyond high school because of my deficiencies.
Is it possible for someone with an IQ below 100 to go to college? Most people with BIF (borderline intellectual functioning) immediately go to work jobs which require very little skill and education. Because anything else would be beyond their intellectual comprehension.
Most university students have an IQ of 115-125. According to the test I took, I have an IQ of 80-90.
Also, most institutions require incoming freshmen to take college algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. My math skills do not exceed basic arithmetic because anything beyond that was omitted throughout my high school career. Some of them even require AP credits in these areas. I am going to have an extremely difficult time learning what I missed in high school.
For most people, at least those with average/above average/superior intelligence, college is very easy and simple. But for "special" individuals such as myself, continued education is extremely tricky. Ordinary people do not have the limitations that I do. When normal people go to college, there isn't any field of study that exceeds their intellectual understanding. Math, physics, science, engineering, medicine, nothing is off-limits.
