Okay I know this is probably a stupid question best answered by having the experience but that just ain't going to happen any time soon and I have several nearly done stories that need finishing that involve female subs so I need to pick some brains here if possible.

I need some been there done that descriptions of the difference in feeling between a paddle and a cane. I am thinking the cane is more localized and a stronger sting/pain but I am having a difficult time with specific descriptions because I haven't ever had a cane used on me so I am trying to describe something from a submissive perspective that I haven't ever felt personally...which given the way I write is difficult for me.

So if anyone / many ones would take pity on me and provide as descriptively as they can how a cane makes them feel....physically, emotionally and whatever other ly's come to mind I would be forever grateful.

SO MUCH difference.

A cane is a lot more than just a sting. All of the force of the blow is concentrated in a really narrow stripe, and the cane pushes very deep into the skin and hits the deeper nerve endings.

So you get the sting of the skin level, then a shocked pause, then the hottest, most impossible, burn that spreads outward from the impact. Then a second sting, as the cane leaves the flesh.

*fans self* I just made myself wet..

Damn Stella thank you for that. I wish I could let my guard down enough to let someone do this to me but I have discovered that my submissive side is a picky bitch and trusts almost no one so I have had to put her one the shelf for awhile. I am assuming that the cane can be built up slowly in the same way a paddle can?

And hell...you made me wet too.

yeah, you would want to use it light and fast, to build up the sebum under the skin-- thickens and toughens the skin in preparation for the big whack. :D

This is a bottoming issue, not a submissive issue, and I would only do this with an experienced top, by the way.

And to be excruciatingly truthful, I've craved this far more often than I've actually done it-- four times in my life, and that time lasts me for a couple of years. ;)

If you have experienced true nerve pain, such as severe sciatica, a cane is much more akin to this. As Stella said, it starts with a stinging bite and then deepens and sears....mmmmm......

A paddle on the other hand is more of a diffuse pain. While there is burn to it, it doesn't have the bite of a cane.

The best caning I had lasted about 15 minutes of constant strikes. It was a lot of flutters strikes that were continuous and then every now and then a harder wack, and then flutter and then a even harder wack and then flutter etc etc until nearer to the end was some really fast hard strikes. He finished off with lighter flutter strikes which still hurt but were very fast and was calming.

The result of that made me, after a 5 minute cuddle, request a very brief hard bare handed spanking.

Emotionally...it was by my dominant, not a punishment but it was..well, I'll just say it was needed. For both of us.

Well fuck! :D

I asked a similar question once, (about caning only), for a story I was working on, and received a lot of fabulous replies. I wish I could remember the thread title, sorry.

But here's the link to the story and scene. The caning is in the final story "Neapolitan", near the end. Not sure if it will help but I know I appreciate lots of different input when writing about something I've never experienced.

Excellent description. I've always associated the cane with that radiating burn layered by localized stings. It's the layering of the two, the way the sting seems to land on the burn, that makes me fear the cane in anticipation.

And I love your inclusion of the shocked pause. That is the moment that I particularly love, because everything - ego, time, space, etc - is suspended, and my mind goes totally empty for what is probably just a fraction of a second.

But when the burn spreads in that empty mind, it feels great - like heat, or energy, without discomfort - until the sting comes. In my experience, it's always rude, that second sting, interrupting my bliss with its sharp insult.

While we're on the subject, how does a paddle compare to a belt or a bare hand? I've got experience with the last two, but not a paddle.

My riding crop is in the mail, along with another toy my partner gave me permission to buy. So excited.

Leather paddle, wooden, or "alternative" materials (plexyglass, PVC, etc.)? Thick and stiff, thinner and somewhat flexy? Holes, no holes, indentations? Width, length? Density of material (therefore mass/weight)? All of these things - and more - affect the feel. Of course, different belts have different feels, as do different hands. For example, my hands, which are large enough to completely conceal a dollar bill laid on a flat surface, would feel very different than smaller, more delicate hands, because of the size difference as well as the difference in weight and amount of callus. My partners (current and past) have (had) varying opinions on various types of paddles, and no two of them would (have) agree(d) on which paddle(s) they liked, and which they hated, and which they put up with just because *I* liked them.

All of that to say this: The only way to find out, really, is to try them out. That may result in you buying (or making) some paddles that you don't like. In fact, it probably will. However, the same can be said about floggers, canes and crops, nipple clamps and ropes, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum. Each toy has its own devotees, its own advantages and disadvantages, and you have to experiment a bit until you find out what floats your boat.

When I bottom, I prefer a bare hand over a paddle and you NEVER touch my ass with a belt... For me it is not so much a difference in the sensation, but a difference in the intimacy of it all....

When I'm with my girl however, she LOVES when I use one particular paddle on her. (Like she seriously, told me she dreamed about it the other night...) She much prefers that over my bare hand, or the belt whippings that she enjoyed with a previous partner. (I have a hard time giving a belt whipping, too...)
