Other then that, I can't really think of anything. The voter ID thing does seem kind of stupid- I've never understood anonymous voting, it exists solely to bullshit. That way, if you know the people who were running, and they win, you can pretend you voted for them so that they'll vote for you. That's some bullshit, right there. I tell people right to their face that I didn't vote for them. I might not get any political favors, but I'm kind of a dick.

Didn't you learn this in high school? That is the whole point of a secret ballot. Nobody can threaten you with harm or by bribe you with money or favors to get your vote -- or, rather, they can, but nobody will, if they have no way of checking after e-day on whether you followed through.

I learned what i learned about politics in high school by being forced to help my realitives run for office. And I totally bought votes. And- secret secret- local elections and probably nationals to, totally know who you vote for. They take your social when you go in, then record when and on which machine you voted. As a result, you put the numbers, time, and location together to pinpoint who voted for who. I've also had to go with realitives who lost to bitch out people they paid out who didn't vote the way they were supposed to. I can totally get behind voter accountability.

My dad was actually indicted by the FBI. But he got off. It sounds cool to say "indicted by the FBI" but it's actually not as dramatic as anything. The trial was exactly the same as his normal 'assault' trials. Except my mom took us out of school, which was pretty cool. It was for the Sheriff's election. They had these 'special agents' who were there to testify, and one of the few things I remember is that my dad's lawyer got up and said that EVERY FBI agent was a 'special' agent. Then he asked the guy who had indicted my dad his specialty was- he said "explosives" nothing near what he was asked to testify for. I remember that only because I thought it was funny. I hated my fucking dad and really hoped that they would put him away.

Perry County is an old boy's club, bad. The voting here, and probably everywhere else, is so rigged that one could Gerri with it. That's a pretty well-known fact, and my generation, at least, has always accepted it on a national level. In fact, a secret ballot arguably makes vote-counting-fraud and ballot-box-stuffing easier, for those who are positioned to do it, because with a secret ballot -- assuming it really has (as advertised, though you apparently don't believe it) no paper-trail or digital equivalent linking voter to vote -- then there's no way to prove the election official is lying about the results, because there's no way to prove voter X voted or did not vote for candidate Y -- is there?

For a bunch of shit over the course of like, 5 years, that eventually came down to "intimidation" not just for vote buying, but also "excessive force" on a bunch of his arrests. Most of the people who he "intimidated" wouldn't take the stand, because he is a crazy fucker, and they destroyed all the records on the vote thing, so they couldn't make it stick. His boss, the guy who took the sheriff's office was named Les Burget- you can probably look it up. The only thing that they actually kinda got to stick was an 'excessive force' charge on some drug dealer, because she was willing to take the stand- he had not only fucked up a bunch of her customers for not voting correctly, but also hassled her for taking business from my aunt, who also ran a meth lab. They eventually dropped that, because she failed the hell out of every drug test and the jury didn't consider her a 'credible' witness. My brother and I weren't allowed to testify- I would have told them to lock that motherfucker up and throw away the key.

They did determine that he shot her for no reason, though, and now he isn't allowed to have guns. But my mom and brother, who live with him, totally can (even though legally, he wasn't supposed to have them in the same house). But that totally never stopped him from having a gun.

Long story short- I have daddy issues.
