This idea started with a conversation I had with Noor when I asked a technical question about some of her machines.

Suppose the "Model Number" of a piece of equipment is not a wierd number, such as 'XA-1234' or '012-123456' but a 'name' (Ikea do something ike it).
She suggested naming things using the names of Animals instead.

It can be even more fun taking the name of an extinct animal, even a Dynosaur.

An amusing alternative might be to replace the Nato Standard Phonetic Alphabet (Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, etc.,)

So what would the Inhabitants of the AH suggest ?

*scratches head* Are you talking about in general, or something specific?

Apple's already been doing that, for example, with their OS X names:

10.3 = Panther
10.4 = Tiger
10.5 = Leopard
10.6 = Snow Leopard
10.7 = Lion

Think that covers the last decade. :D Sooner or later they'll run out of cats, but it'll take a few centuries. I'd like to see "Ocelot."

How about the iPad69 with the Pussy operating system?

When do you think they'll get to the Maine Coon Cat?

I wanted to replace Nato Standard Phonetic Alphabet (Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, etc.,) with endangered and extincted animals.

Astrodon, Brontosaurus, Coelacanth, Dodo...

so if I was explaining to someone with a different accent about a BD 3000 machine on the phone I would say "Its a Brontosaurus Dodo 3000"

It seems although HP and I were both present in the conversation, we were not on the same page ;-)

I think it would be great to use fetishes for the Nato Standard Phonetic Alphabet...

George Carlin probably would have had fun with it!
