More abortion controversy, this time about the Komen Foundation cutting funding to Planned Parenthood.

Let's keep all this in its proper perspective: Abortion, like gay marriage, is one of those controversial things that shouldn't even be controversial. Sometimes RWs have some good or at least challenging arguments on economic or military issues. But on social issues -- there's no merit at all to the anti-abortion/anti-gay-marriage side. It's like arguing with flat-Earthers. On social/moral issues, RWs are not only always wrong, they are always completely, fundamentally, indefensibly wrong. Like, Nate-the-Neoconservative wrong.

Sorry for the sour, peremptory tone of this. I'm just sick of engaging with social conservatives like they deserve to be taken seriously as adults, which they don't. Flat-Earthers, all. More importantly, I resent the demands all this imposes on public time and attention. Every hour politicians spend wrestling with these brainfart nonissues is an hour they could spend on something really important and urgent. And I say this is the only way to shout 'em down like they should be shouted down. Never let the religious right out-demonize you! Always top 'em! Follow them into the churches and shame them there!

Is it controversial that I don't want to pay for abortions, morning-after or birth control pills?

Dude, you gotta pay taxes for a lot of things you'll personally never use. Like schools.

That is stretching it a bit much don't cha think? I am against abortions nor do I think I should foot the bill for someone else's fuck ups. It does not mean I am going on a witch hunt for those involved.

Nor am I gay, but I am not against those who make that choice for themselves. It does not effect what I think of them as a human being. So excuse the fuck out of me for retaining my heterosexual preferences.

None of the above in this post makes me a Right Wing or any of those other labels you attach to it. Those are my feelings - they are part of what I am - and if no one likes it, they can shove it up their over analytical, judgmental asses.

you take moron to a hole new level

socialist loving bastard

No, it doesn't, because you're not making a political issue of it. Many do. And they demand a lot of attention, too.

Trying to twist me into a gay basher because I am heterosexual is pretty lame Rob.

When did you choose to be heterosexual? I'm not twisting your words at all.

I'll be honest with you....I don't ever recall having made a choice about my sexuality.... I've been heterosexual all my life.

I'm interested in how guys like you made a choice about their sexual preference. Did you think for a while before making a choice? Maybe look at some guys and think...hmmm, maybe not?

Reasonable post for the most part. But what does you being straight have to do with the issues discussed? I don' get it.

I suppose you could say we've taken another step when people automatically assume paying for abortion and day-after pills is a function of government.

Nobody is saying that at all. We're saying that the inane pick-and-choose model you're whining about is not feasible.

Children raised to adulthood by both parents living together in matrimony tend to do better in life than children who are nor raised that way. Social conservatives are correct to regret the growing percentage of children who are not raised in stable nuclear families. However, the changes have been due to changes in individual mores and behavior. In a country like the United States there is little the government can do to effect these. Consequently they are not really political issues.

I have been heterosexual all my life. I love women. Any other choice never entered my mind.
